10 Best Dual-Type Fairy Pokémon

Since they were first introduced into the Pokémon series in Generation 6, Fairy-types have been among the strongest in the games. Some Pokémon from previous generations, such as Clefairy and Jigglypuff, were given the Fairy typing, and many new Fairy Pokémon were added. Some of these have dual-typing.

While many of these Fairy-type Pokémon are nothing special, some are incredibly powerful. Those with dual-typing can be particularly strong, and with Fairy as one of those types, some Pokémon are on the higher end of meta-relevance.

10 Zacian (Crowned Sword)

As the box art legendary for Pokémon: Sword, Zacian has one of the highest base stat totals in the Galar region. While its Hero of Many Battles form is strong on its own, Zacian becomes much more powerful in its Crowned Sword form. The stat boost is accompanied by the addition of the Steel-type. This gives Zacian two more weaknesses: Fire and Ground. However, it also gives it an immunity to a type that is normally super-effective against it: Poison. The now Fairy/Steel-type Zacian takes neutral damage from Fighting-type moves but gains many resistances.

9 Mega Diancie

On its own, the Rock/Fairy Diancie is already a very strong mythical Pokémon with a high base stat total. With a mega evolution on top of that, most of its stats are incredibly high. This is not true for its HP stat, however, which remains relatively low. One of the main reasons why Mega Diancie is so powerful is its Magic Bounce ability, which it gains upon mega evolving. This ability reflects certain moves, like status moves, back to the Pokémon that used them. This eliminates many moves that Pokémon may use to try to whittle down one’s health.

8 Tapu Lele

Although it is a dual-type Psychic/Fairy Pokémon, Tapu Lele tends to lean more into its primary typing. The Psychic Surge ability activates Psychic Terrain upon entering battle. This contributes to making Tapu Lele an incredibly powerful Pokémon.

The terrain boosts this Pokémon’s powerful Psychic-type attacks, which use its high Special Attack stat. With a decent Speed stat as well, Tapu Lele can strike faster than many opponents. Although it does not have a very high Defense stat, Tapu Lele can deal a large amount of damage very quickly.

7 Magearna

Magearna, a mythical Pokémon with incredible lore, is also very capable in battle. Although it is not incredibly fast, the Steel/Fairy-type has above average to high values in every other stat, especially Special Attack. The main drawback to using Magearna is that it does not have access to many Special moves with Steel or Fairy typing, meaning it does not get a Same Type Attack Bonus with many of the strongest moves it can learn. However, its Soul-Heart ability allows it to gain a Special Attack boost when a Pokémon on the battlefield faints, increasing its viability.

6 Tapu Bulu

With the Grassy Surge ability, the Grass/Fairy-type Tapu Bulu gets a boost to Grass attacks as a result of Grassy Terrain. This ability also restores some HP to all grounded Pokémon on the battlefield at the end of each round it is active. Tapu Bulu has high Attack and Defense stats, as well as a decent Special Defense stat. This, however, is at the sacrifice of the Speed stat. Its access to a variety of strong Physical moves allows it to strike back against opponents that attempt to take it down.

5 Tapu Koko

The Electric/Fairy-type Tapu Koko’s Electric Surge ability creates Electric Terrain. This boosts its Electric attacks, which are already helped by Tapu Koko’s high Attack and relatively high Special Attack stats. While Tapu Koko has fairly low Defense and Special Defense, it has a very high Speed stat. Because of this stat, this Pokémon can outspeed many opponents, allowing it to use its powerful attacks before the enemy can strike. It also has access to Spark and Shock Wave, which are two of the most powerful Electric moves in the games.

4 Mega Gardevoir

While Gardevoir in its base form already has a fairly high base stat total, mega evolving raises some of its stats significantly. The biggest change is to its Special Attack stat, which is highly boosted. This is ideal for Mega Gardevoir, which has access to many Special moves.

The dual-type Psychic/Fairy-type’s biggest weakness is its low Defense stat, which does not change from its base form. With its decent Speed stat and incredibly high Special Attack stat, though, Mega Gardevoir can handle many of the opponents that would be a threat before they can strike.

3 Tapu Fini

The Water/Fairy-type Tapu Fini focuses on defending itself more than the other Guardian Deities do, with high values in both its Defense and Special Defense stats. It also has the Misty Surge ability, which creates Misty Terrain. This causes status moves to be unusable during the terrain’s duration, limiting the moves that can be used against one’s team. It has access to many viable moves, so even though its Attack and Special Attack stats are lackluster, it partially makes up for it with powerful move options.

2 Togekiss

Although the Fairy/Flying Togekiss is neither a legendary Pokémon nor does it have a mega evolution, it is considered one of the most powerful 4th Gen dual-type Pokémon. It relies on its Special Attack stat as opposed to its low Attack stat. The main drawback of using Togekiss is that its available moves consist of many Special and Physical moves. While these moves do not all play to Togekiss’s strengths, the Special moves that are available certainly do. Decent Defense and above-average Special Defense stats allow Togekiss to withstand attacks and prepare its own in return.

1 Mega Altaria

As opposed to many other dual-type Fairy Pokémon, Mega Altaria is only a Fairy-type when it is mega evolved. With this mega evolution, it gains a significant increase to both its Attack and Special Attack stats. This allows the Dragon/Fairy-type Mega Altaria to compete with many strong Pokémon that it would struggle with when in its base form. The biggest drawback is that Mega Altaria’s Special Defense and Speed stats do not change from its base form. However, with the change in its typing, it loses its double weakness to Ice-type, which helps it in its matchups.
