10 Best Dual-Type Poison Pokémon

Since the Pokémon franchise began, the Poison-type has been in a complicated position. In Generation I, it was the most abundant type, most often being one-half of a dual-typing. Poison was not the most common in any other generation afterward, but it continued to be one of the more plentiful types.

Unfortunately, a sizable percentage of Poison Pocket Monsters are only decent, giving the type a reputation as one of the less impressive. However, some dual-type Poison Pokémon are very strong, capable of holding their own in battle and carrying players through a playthrough. If trainers find a powerful Poison-type in the main series games, it can help them greatly with some challenging NPC battles.

10 Nihilego

Not only is it one of the best designed Ultra Beasts in Pokémon, but the Rock/Poison-type Nihilego can also more than hold its own in a fight. The biggest downfall of Nihilego is its Defense stat, which is awful, but its high HP can help to cushion some of the damage it takes from Physical moves. Aside from this weakness, though, the Ultra Beast can dominate.

Nihilego is faster than many others, and its Special Attack is quite high, meaning that it may not even have to take a hit in battle. If it does, though, its Special Defense is its highest stat, and it receives a buff whenever Nihilego knocks out another Pokémon because of its Ability, Beast Boost.

9 Mega Gengar

Gengar, the original fully evolved Ghost-type, is also one of the stronger Poison-types from Generation I. In its base form, it may still rank among the best dual-type Poison Pokémon, and with its Mega Evolution, there is no question. With a fantastic Speed stat, few can move faster than Mega Gengar, and its massive Special Attack stat often lets it finish the job easily.

The rest of its stats are relatively unimpressive, but Mega Gengar’s strengths serve it well. With access to some stellar moves, Mega Gengar can easily sweep through many opposing teams.

8 Crobat

Crobat, one of the best Pokémon evolutions added in a later generation, gave the Zubat line a dramatic improvement in Generation II. The Poison/Flying-type is incredibly fast, and while its Attack stat is not exceptional, it is high enough to allow Crobat to capitalize on its Speed stat to a decent extent.

Crobat’s Hidden Ability, Infiltrator, can also help in its offensive capabilities by letting the Pokémon bypass enemy barriers set up through various moves. When it cannot knock opponents out in one hit, Crobat can usually survive a strike with its decent, if slightly underwhelming, bulk. It is not the strongest Pokémon in the series, but Crobat’s speed can make it dangerous.

7 Nidoking

Nidoking is decently fast, but not exceptionally so. As a result, it cannot always out-speed, and while its bulk is not tremendous, it is at least reasonable. Offensively, Nidoking is more comfortable using its relatively high Attack stat. However, it can utilize its slightly lower, but still decent, Special Attack if need be.

One of Nidoking’s biggest assets is its Hidden Ability, Sheer Force, which greatly buffs the power of attacks that have additional effects, removing the additional effects in the process. Several of Nidoking’s attacks can benefit from this, making the Pokémon much more viable.

6 Naganadel

With mediocre HP, Defense, and Special Defense, Naganadel’s biggest weakness is its only decent ability to take a hit. This is not the Ultra Beast’s purpose, though. Its strength is hitting opponents first and with devastating effects.

Naganadel’s Speed stat allows it to act before a large portion of the Pokémon in the series, and its Special Attack stat is often high enough to take them out relatively easily. Furthermore, when Naganadel’s Beast Boost activates, its Special Attack raises even higher, making the Pokémon an intimidating foe.

5 Mega Venusaur

Bulbasaur is perhaps the best starter Pokémon from the first generation, and its final stage’s Mega Evolution lives up to this status by being an incredible Pocket Monster of its classification. It is not slow, but it is not incredibly fast either. As a result, Mega Venusaur does not consistently act first, but even when it does not, it can withstand extensive damage because of its high Defense and Special Defense.

When its time comes to strike, Mega Venusaur prefers Special attacks because of its high value in this category, but its Physical side is also decent, giving it more options.

4 Roserade

Roserade has a higher than average Speed stat, which it needs because its HP and Defense are both unimpressive, leaving it vulnerable to Physical damage. Its Special Defense is better, but even this cannot fully compensate for the Pokémon’s HP.

With its Speed, though, Roserade can reliably act first and use its high Special Attack stat to sweep through various enemy teams with ease. In addition, its Hidden Ability, Technician, buffs the power of weaker moves, giving Roserade more Special options to use to its advantage.

3 Nidoqueen

Like Nidoking, Nidoqueen also has Sheer Force as its Hidden Ability, giving it the same benefits. This helps because Nidoqueen’s offensive stats are not extremely impressive. Its Attack stat is certainly capable, but it is not exceptional.

Nidoqueen is a very well-rounded Pokémon, with capable bulk that usually lets it take a few hits before going down. Its Speed stat is decent, letting it move before many opponents, though not an overwhelming majority. Luckily, Nidoqueen has access to some stellar moves, contributing to it being a viable Poison/Ground-type.

2 Eternatus

As a major part of the story of Sword & Shield, Eternatus has a reputation for being a devastating combatant. Its Eternamax form gives it the highest base stat total of any Pokémon, but because trainers cannot utilize it, it is not fair to judge it by these stats. Even in its base form, though, Eternatus is a fantastic Pokémon.

The Poison/Dragon-type Legendary has a very high Speed stat and even higher Special Attack, letting it strike quickly and effectively. Both of its defensive stats are above-average, and its excellent HP gives it the bulk to withstand decent damage. With its signature moves, Dynamax Cannon and Eternabeam, as well as some other Special attacks it can access, Eternatus is one of the strongest Galar Legendaries.

1 Mega Beedrill

Without its Mega Evolution, Beedrill is useful for a period, but it becomes outclassed as games progress. Mega Beedrill, however, can be a valuable asset for even the tougher opponents. While its HP and Defense are abysmal and its Special Defense is only decent, Mega Beedrill’s Speed and Attack stats are absurdly high.

There are only a handful of situations in which another Pokémon out-speeds Mega Beedrill, and it can defeat many opponents with its sheer power. It also has Adaptability as its Ability, which boosts the power of attacks that benefit from a Same Type Attack Bonus, making Beedrill a destructive force.
