10 Best Friendships In The MCU

The individual characters in the MCU have a lot to do with its immense success, but the relationships between these characters are what bring us back again and again. It is incredibly fun to see these larger-than-life individuals fight, joke and share the same world together.

Throughout these many films, we have seen that some character work especially well together. These are the superheroes with share that perfect chemistry and make a formidable duo, whether they are saving the universe, or just hanging out. Here are the best friendships in the MCU.

10 Stephen Strange And Wong

Doctor Strange and Wong seemed like unlikely friends when they first meet. Wong is the strict guardian of the Sanctum Sanatorium and doesn’t seem very impressed by Strange’s disregard for the rules. But over time they grew to respect one another and form a solid partnership.

Their friendship seems to have grown a lot by the time we catch up with them in Infinity War. They have a fun report and have loosened up with each other. Though Strange seems to have taken the lead, we’re sure Wong still has a lot to teach him.

9 Korg And Miek

Thor: Ragnarok did a lot to improve the character of Thor, but maybe its most memorable contributions to the MCU were Korg and Miek. These two oddballs are among the new friends that Thor makes while trapped on Sakar. We don’t know how they met or if they even understand each other, but they seem like a good pairing.

Despite the fact that Korg seems pretty casual when he thinks Miek is dead, the two are inseparable. They also seem to have become some of Thor’s closest friends and are willing to just hang out playing video games while he’s in a funk.

8 Scott Lang And Luis

Scott Lang seems like the most down-to-earth of all the Avengers. He is just a regular guy who is very excited to be one of the superheroes. That attitude is probably helped a lot by his buddy Luis, one of the most positive people in the world.

Scott and Luis might be ex-criminals but they seem like pretty decent people all things considered. They still are willing to do the right thing when called upon and have fun doing it. They might be unlikely heroes, but they trust each other even when no one else does.

7 Tony Stark And James Rhodes

Even with a major recasting, this duo has managed to maintain a beautiful friendship. Tony and Rhodey have that easy-going nature and constant bickering that can only come with a long and happy relationship. They have had serious disagreements in the past, but more often than not, they have each other’s backs.

Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard had great chemistry together in Iron Man, but when Don Cheadle replaced Howard, he brought a lighter touch to the part. The old-married-couple routine is fun, but these two have also shared some heavy moments together and helped each other through it all.

6 Carol Danvers And Nick Fury

Nick Fury doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that makes a lot of friends. Even when hanging out with all the super-people he knows, he seems unimpressed. Maybe that’s because it’s hard to compare to his best buddy, Captain Marvel.

Fury and Carol met back in the 90s and quickly formed a sort of buddy-cop relationship that is a lot of fun. Fury helped Carol discover her past while she introduced him to a universe of superheroes. These are two serious professionals who don’t let anyone stand in their way, but they seem to have found a good friend in each other.

5 Tony Stark And Happy Hogan

The partnership between Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau is a big part of why the MCU became what it is today. As luck would have it, the two are also an effective team on screen together. Despite the employer-employee relationship, they seem more like brothers.

Tony is never shy about giving Happy a hard time and Happy helps keep Tony just a little grounded. As a testament to the strength of their relationship, Happy’s involvement in Spider-Man: Far From Home helped make it feel like Tony was a part of that story even more.

4 Natasha Romanoff And Clint Barton

Being the only two normal people thrown into a group of superheroes, it makes sense that Natasha and Clint tend to stick together. However, their history together goes further back than we have seen. When Natasha was a world-class assassin, it was Clint that decided to make her a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent rather than kill her.

When Clint went down a similar dark path, it was Natasha who brought him back. They know each other’s dark secrets and trust each other without hesitation. As we saw in Endgame, they are both willing to die to save the other.

3 Peter Parker And Ned Leeds

For a high school kid to hide the fact that he is secretly a superhero must be stressful. Luckily for Peter Parker, his best friend Ned discovered his secret pretty quickly. Peter and Ned have that kind of easy teenage friendship where they can really be their weirdest selves around each other.

Other than some initial questions about his powers which are very understandable, Ned doesn’t treat Peter any differently. And even though Peter occasionally hangs out with the Avengers, he doesn’t act too cool to hang out with Ned.

2 Rocket And Groot

The relationship between Rocket and Groot has grown significantly since we first were introduced to the pair. As two of the most outlandish characters in the MCU, Rocket and Groot looked like a pretty mismatched pair, but as soon as you spend a few minutes with them, it’s clear they were meant to be together.

Though Rocket is hard on Groot at first, Groot’s death shows how much these two do really care about one another. Rocket’s relationship with the Baby Groot is more parental and he really takes it upon himself to protect his little friend who means so much to him.

1 Steve Roger And Bucky Barnes

Though it was heartwarming to see Steve Rogers getting his happy ending with Peggy Carter, it’s a little sad he had to say goodbye to his best buddy Bucky. Steve and Sam Wilson have a very solid friendship as well, but Steve and Bucky have been through so much more together.

Since before they were super-soldiers, these two were looking out for one another. Though some unfortunate brain-washing made them enemies for a time, Steve never gave up on Bucky and helped him escape his dark past. It’s clear these two would do anything for each other.
