10 Breaking Bad Characters Who Deserve Their Own Prequels

Breaking Bad is one of the greatest television shows of all time, its quality largely thanks to an outstanding cast. The show contains some of the greatest acting and character writing ever seen on television, and the result is a stellar cast of memorable characters who will likely go down in television history.

Of course, with fascinating characters comes a desire to spend time with them. No one was particularly expecting a Saul spinoff, but Better Call Saul became one of the greatest shows of the 2010s. It makes Breaking Bad fans question what other characters could excel in a spinoff of their own.

Walter White

Of course, what fan wouldn’t want a prequel about the star himself? Breaking Bad was great at establishing Walter’s past and motivations, and audiences should know pretty much everything there is to know about Walter.

However, a prequel series could still prove interesting. Some of the nicest things that Walt ever did in Breaking Bad were centered around his family, and it would be nice to see a lighter, more hopeful side of Walter. Maybe a spin-off set around his time at Gray Matter, when he actually had some hope and optimism about the future?

Jesse Pinkman

In Breaking Bad‘s 5 seasons, audiences know pretty much everything there is to know about Jesse Pinkman. He was raised by a strict family who favored intelligence and ambition, he performed terribly in school, and he eventually fell into a world of drugs. Jesse’s prequel spinoff could make for a great family drama.

Like Better Call Saul, it could make for a great tragedy about a character’s downfall. Viewers could watch the otherwise smart and ambitious Jesse fall into drugs and subsequently become increasingly estranged from his strict parents.

Hank Schrader

In some ways, Hank is Breaking Bad‘s best supporting character. He’s certainly the most heroic and noble. Unlike some of the other major characters, viewers actually don’t know much about Hank’s upbringing and early life. This opens up many possibilities surrounding a prequel spinoff.

How did he and Marie grow so close? What made him want to become an authority figure? What types of adventures has he gotten into? It could make for a great cop drama, and it would open up Hank’s character to more interesting stories about crime and the impact it has on the people who encounter it every day.

Todd Alquist

Todd was introduced in the fifth and final season and quickly established himself as the primary antagonist. Unfortunately, his brief time on the show resulted in a lot of missing information. Viewers know virtually nothing about Todd’s life, let alone his upbringing.

It would be very interesting to see how he came to be. What turned him into such a cold-blooded killer? How did he fall into a group of white supremacists? Was he always so emotionless and detached, or did his experiences shape his personality? All of these intriguing questions could be answered in a limited series prequel that explores the character’s violent past and doomed future.

Badger & Skinny Pete

Breaking Bad is a fictional universe steeped in tragedy. And that’s why a prequel surrounding Badger and Skinny Pete could prove so fascinating. These are two relatively clueless and bumbling characters, so they would make for a great comedic tone.

No, their personal stories don’t seem all that interesting or tragic, so it would lose some of that exciting Breaking Bad magic. But it would prove a refreshing change of pace, and it would be hilarious to watch their stoned bumbling and inane ramblings for hours at a time.

Gretchen & Elliott Schwartz

Gretchen and Elliott are some heroes that the Breaking Bad fans hated. They aren’t bad people, but fans grow to hate them owing to the fact that Breaking Bad is told from Walt’s point of view. Therefore, a change in POV is what could make this prequel so endlessly fascinating.

Audiences still aren’t sure exactly what caused the fallout between Walt and Gray Matter, and a prequel would clear up some of the lingering questions. It could also paint Gretchen and Elliott in a more positive light, and their side of the story could shed even more light onto Walt’s deluded character.

Lydia Rodarte-Quayle

Lydia was introduced in the fifth and final season as the Head of Logistics at Madrigal Electromotive. They are the owners of Los Pollos Hermanos and by extension, Gus’s meth superlab. When the superlab was finally discovered, Peter Schuler of Madrigal took his own life.

It would be endlessly interesting to watch Lydia and Madrigal at length. What other types of illicit projects are they operating? How exactly do they operate? How does Lydia factor into the equation? It would be very loosely connected to Breaking Bad, but it could prove a very interesting show in its own right.

Tuco Salamanca

Unfortunately, audiences didn’t get much time with Tuco. He is introduced at the end of season one and quickly disposed of at the beginning of season two. He is briefly seen in Better Call Saul, but again, his time on the show is short. He was a Breaking Bad character gone way too soon.

Luckily, a prequel series could rectify that, and it would establish how he became a meth boss within New Mexico. It would be very interesting to watch his rise through the ranks – a rise that presumably included lots of violence and excitement.

Gale Boetticher

Gale is one of the most fascinating characters in the Breaking Bad universe, and everyone would love to see more of him. Breaking the stereotype of the drug dealer, Gale is wickedly intelligent, incredibly cultured, and painfully nice.

He is mild-mannered and very polite, and his tragic demise actually caused some fans to feel sympathy for the poor man. People would not only love to see more of Gale, but they would also love to see how he became entwined in the drug industry and the choices that he made in getting there.

Patrick Kuby

Patrick Kuby is probably not the first character that one would think of for a prequel series. But this story could make for some great viewing. For one thing, viewers would get more Bill Burr, and that is never a bad thing.

Better Caul Saul fans would also get more Saul Goodman, which again, is certainly not a bad thing. Watching him intimidate others and leap through legal hoops for Saul could prove very entertaining. The series would be like the famous car wash sequence, only much longer and more legally detailed.
