10 Most Memorable Quotes From Lost

The series called Lost, which was on from 2004 to 2010, was about a group of people who crashed onto a strange island. Of course, it was about much, much more than that, but this is not a recap of the show. No, this is a collection of the 10 most memorable quotes from Lost.

There was mystery. There was sci-fi. There was love. There was loss. There was humor. And the lines down below portray all of that and then some. So get ready for a walk down memory lane, as we remember 10 of the greatest quotes from this TV show.

10 “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!”

Perhaps the most notable line from this show was spoken by John Locke: “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” As many will recall, he was in a wheelchair before Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 crashed onto the island. He tried to live his life to the fullest, though, and he did not want to be told he was incapable of doing something…like going on a walkabout.

After his transformation, he could miraculously walk again, and more than ever, he did not want to be bossed around or crammed into a box; he had a strong-willed personality and certainly did things his own way.

9 “If we can’t live together, we’re going to die alone.”

After the crash, Dr. Jack Shephard became the leader due to his skills and strengths. This was not an easy task, on so many levels, but he remained a go-to support system and guiding light. In one of his most inspiring speeches, he gave it to the survivors straight: “If we can’t live together, we’re going to die alone.”

And with polar bears, The Smoke Monster, natural elements, The Others, and so on, this group definitely needed to band together and stay together, if they all wanted to make it.

8 “Dude, you’ve got some Artz on you.”

In the middle of all the chaos and even with all the dangers, there was always some comic relief, and it usually came from Hugo Reyes, who was better known as Hurley. One of his best-known lines is actually pretty sad: “Dude, you’ve got some Artz on you.”

Artz was a person, and yes, he ended up in a bunch of little pieces, due to an explosion. And while characters on the show and fans at home were processing what just happened, Hurley spoke these words, which lightened the mood a bit!

7 “Shut up, Red…Neck…Man…!”

Many other funny parts happened thanks to James “Sawyer” Ford. He was a very sarcastic tough guy, and he had a nickname for everyone. Well, at one point, Hurley wanted to come back at him and give him his own nickname. This is what came out: “Shut up, Red…Neck…Man…!”

Sawyer responded with a “touche`” (in a sarcastic tone, of course), and just like that, a classic moment was born. It was short and sweet, but it summed up these two pretty well.

6 “What I saw was beautiful.”

To say things got crazy on Lost would be an understatement, and eventually, Locke said that he had looked into the eye of the island. He continued by saying “what I saw was beautiful.”

See, this was not just some normal piece of land. It could move through time. It was all about the balance of good and bad and light and dark. It was this one-of-a-kind locale that served as the setting for an amazing TV show! And in the middle of it all, Locke claimed to have seen beauty in it, even though it was not always rainbow and sunshine in this place.

5 “Not Penny’s boat”

Speaking of bad and sad moments, Charlie’s final scene was super tough. There were times of hope, when these survivors thought they were being saved, but things were hardly ever as they seemed. For instance, a boat that could have rescued them turned out to be “not Penny’s boat,” which Charlie’s relayed by writing this on his hand.

This is one of the most known episodes, and it was the one that brought about the end of a main character.

4 “I’ll wait for you always.”

There are some smiles associated with Penny, though, as her and Desmond had one of the greatest love stories. And she had one of the most touching quotes! She said the following: “All we really need to survive is one person who truly loves us, and you have her. I’ll wait for you always.”

This show was about survival and love and waiting, and in the end, the main group becomes a true family. There were, however, special couples who loved each other on a deeper level, and it was beautiful to watch this woman wait for her man.

3 “You’ll understand soon enough that there are consequences to being chosen.”

As mentioned, John Locke saw into The Island, and he wanted to be the leader of this mysterious place. Ben, though, who had been living there for some time, gave him some advice:You’ll understand soon enough that there are consequences to being chosen. Because destiny, John, is a fickle b****.”

Some of these characters thought The Island was the best thing ever. Others couldn’t wait to leave and never look back. So there is this known line, as well as the next one…

2 “We Have To Go Back.”

At one point, these people did get off The Island. They did go home. But then, they went back. Why? They had to! Yes, a very famous quote regarding all of this was exclaimed loudly by Jack: “We have to go back, Kate. We have to go back!”

Again, there is not enough time to go into why this was necessary, so just feel free to go watch or rewatch this television series, in order to honor or figure out why he said that!

1 “You needed them, and they needed you.”

The series finale was fittingly called “The End,” and in that episode, Jack asked his father, Christian, where they were. Christian said, “This is a place you all made together so you could find one another. Nobody does it all alone. You needed them, and they needed you.” Jack asked why. And Christian said, “To remember and to let go.”

While it would take a while to fully describe the ending of this show, this quote does it in a beautiful way; these characters had each other and this special place, and in that end, they reminisced on it all then let it all go.
