The Amazon Prime show, Good Omens has been generating some appeal with its viewership. The show, based on a 1990 novel of the same name, brings a dark comedic twist to biblical characters and the often feared apocalypse.
The demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale like living their days on Earth, but the oncoming arrival of the Antichrist that will lead to Armageddon will put that in jeopardy. 10 Shadowhunters (2016)
Shadowhunters aired on Freefrom in 2016 and caught a lot of attention from young audiences. The show was based on a popular book series by the same name. The movie The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, was also based on the book series.
The show followed the story of Clary Fray as she finds out the truth of her lineage as a Shadowhutner. Shadowhunters are humans with angelic blood who fight demons and protect humans from supernatural forces. While there’s no oncoming apocalypse, the show does deal with angels and demons.
9 The Fallen (2006)
The Fallen might be hard to find online. Its an oldie but a goodie and a guilty pleasure all in one. The show aired as a miniseries in 2006 during a time when the concept of angels was in high demand. The show was based on a book series titled The Fallen by Thomas Sniegoski. The books were developed into a three-part miniseries.
Aaron Corbett (Paul Wesley) wakes up one his 18th birthday to discover he is a Nephilim, the offspring of an angel and a human. He is in grave danger from the Powers as he is the Redeemer from a prophecy with the ability to send angels back to heaven. Along his journey, Aaron discovers who his real fallen angle father is.
8 Damien (2016)
Damien sadly only lived for one season on A&E but it’s perfect if you want something interesting to watch with a new twist on the story of the antichrist. The show starred Bradley James in the main role of Damien Thorn.
The show is based on the popular 1976 film The Omen. Damien is now a full-grown adult and lives his life as a photographer, but he can’t outrun his predestined future. Damien must now embrace his true self and become the antichrist. The show is dark, filled with mystery and will send a chill down your spine.
7 The Messengers (2015)
The Messengers on the CW was a short-lived show that could have had some potential. The show aired 13 episodes before the CW canceled the show in 2015. If you like Good Omens, this show has the same overall theme the main characters have to deal with.
When a strange object plummets into earth causing the death of five strangers, their lives will change forever. The five strangers come back to life with supernatural gifts and learn they are “The Messengers”. They are protectors sworn to stop the oncoming horsemen and the Rapture.
6 Constantine (2015)
One of the most memorable portrayals of the character Constantine on-screen would be the film of the same name from 2004. The film starred Keanu Reeves as the DC Comics character John Constantine. In 2015, NBC tried to revive the character with the show Constantine, starring Matt Ryan in the main role.
John Constantine is a demon hunter who uses his supernatural abilities to protect humankind from the forces of darkness. He struggles with a fine line between good and evil. The sow deals with heaven and hell much like Good Omens. The show sadly only aired for one season on television.
5 Dominion (2014)
There seems to be an ongoing theme of shows based around angels and demons, heaven and hell being canceled after a few seasons. The show Dominion is one of them, but it’s still worth a watch if you’re into the genre. Dominion aired on Syfy in 2015 and only aired for two seasons.
Dominion is the more serious version of Good Omens. This time there’s no antichrist and instead focuses on the raging war between the angels and mankind. The archangel Gabriel is banished from heaven and rages war against mankind. Years later what is left of mankind are living behind a fortified city. The archangel Michale decided to fight alongside them until their prophecized savior arrives.
4 Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is unarguably one of the most talked-about and most popular supernatural fantasy shows to have aired on television. It makes the list because its impossible not to include it when it comes to the genre. The show also deals with demons and the forces of evil.
Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Geller) learns she is the next “Slayer” endowed to protect humankind from supernatural creatures that pose a threat. The show does dabble in the existing knowledge that there are a heaven and hell. But the show mostly focuses on evil demons and not so many angels. There are many instances where an oncoming apocalypse could have occurred in the show, but the Scooby Gang thwarted its possibility of happening.
3 Angel (1999)
Angel was a spinoff show from the Buffyverse that aired in 1999. Despite its title, the show rarely dabbles in the actual biblical/mythological angel. The show centers around Angel (David Boreanaz), a vampire, who moves to Los Angeles to escape the life he left behind with Buffy.
Angel becomes a private investigator “helping the helpless” and killing off demons and supernatural entities that are evil. The show at some point in the episode “Apocalypse, Nowish” does tell the story of the rise of a child who would be known as “the beast” that would bring about the apocalypse.
2 Lucifer (2016)
Lucifer is on everyone’s must-watch list if you’re a fan of the supernatural/fantasy and the concept of heaven and hell. The show is a little different in the sense that it’s a crime show focused on Lucifer Morningstar, aka the Devil himself.
Lucifer (Tom Ellis) gets tired of his job as King of the Underworld and wants to have some fun with the humans running a nightclub in L.A. while solving murder mysteries with Detective Chloe Decker. This creates an imbalance between heaven and hell. Lucifer must juggle the threats between celestial beings from heaven that urge him to return to hell and protecting who he loves most.
1 Supernatural (2005)
Supernatural hits the top of the list and is one of the most beloved and longest-running supernatural/fantasy shows to air on television. After its initial debut in 2005, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have captured the hearts of fans around the world.
The show has everything you could possibly need. Sam and Dean travel through the country hunting evil supernatural creatures. Their stories change and develop as the seasons go and encounter every form of the supernatural with some added comedy and drama. They deal with the turmoils of heaven and hell and meet the demon named Crowley, as well as the angel Gabriel. They even meet Lucifer himself.
Dean and Sam go through strenuous trials to keep mankind safe from the evils that wish to wreak havoc. They must also keep the balance between heaven and hell. Throughout the seasons Dean, Sam and their friends fight to stop the Apocalypse from occurring or stop it before it can get worse. The show even includes the common storyline like in Good Omens of the antichrist.
