1000-Lb. Sisters: All About Amy & Her Husband Michael’s Arrests

Viewers love Amy Slaton and her husband Michael Halterman on 1000-lb Sisters, but the pair’s history of run-ins with the law means they might not be as innocent as fans think that they are. Over time, fans have gotten an up-close and personal look into the lives of husband and wife duo Michael and Amy on 1000-lb Sisters. However, there are certain surprising facts about the couple’s history that their fans might not know about, from Michael’s mysterious crime to Amy spending two hours in jail.

Although Tammy Slaton has a bad track record when it comes to relationships on 1000-lb Sisters, viewers agree that Michael is a perfect match for Amy. They have been in each other’s lives for decades as they both grew up in the same hometown, Dixon, Kentucky. Amy met Michael in high school and had a long-term relationship with him before they tied the knot in March 2019. Michael is a fan-favorite among the 1000-lb Sisters audience because he is loving to his wife and extremely generous to his sister-in-law. Michael routinely cares for Tammy as if she were his own sister and has no problem including her in getaways with Amy. While Amy and Michael might have the perfect family, they haven’t always had the best relationship with the law.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In February 2017, Amy took to her YouTube channel to tell the story of her arrest. Even though Amy was broadcasting her story to over 400,000 subscribers, she was discerning with how she recalled the event. Amy started off the video (included below) by clarifying, “Yes, this is age restricted because I do not want little kids to go out and think it’s okay to steal… Please do not do the dumb things I’ve done.” Amy went on to describe the chain of events that led to her arrest in 2010. Amy was shopping at a Walmart when she came across an $8 book that she didn’t want to pay for. When Amy went to leave the Walmart, she triggered the security alarm. When an associate asked if she’d stolen anything, reality star Amy Slaton denied any wrongdoing.

Regrettably, Amy’s crime was soon found out and she went to jail for two hours before her mom came to pick her up. The soon-to-be reality star ended up having to pay a $400 fine and wasn’t allowed back in Walmart. Amy regrets her theft, saying: “I always learn from my mistakes and this was a big mistake… and I never will do it again.” Nonetheless, Amy isn’t the only 1000-lb Sisters star to get arrested. According to SoapDirt, Michael went to jail in 2016 for crimes listed as “assault, 4th degree (domestic violence) minor injury.” Michael’s caring on-screen personality makes his crime surprising, but it’s hard to say what he was found guilty of given that there are no more details available about this incident.

Now, Amy and Michael are great parents, partners, and reality TV stars, which might make their past criminal offenses surprising to some of their fans. While Amy has been open with fans and owned up to her mistake, less is known about Michael’s time in jail. Fortunately, Amy’s appearance on 1000-lb Sisters means that she won’t have to worry about stealing $8 books again.
