1000-Lb Sisters: Amy & Husband Michael Reveal Gender Of Second Baby

After much anticipation, TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters star Amy Slaton-Halterman and her husband Michael have revealed the gender of their second baby. Amy announced on Jan. 3 that she was 12 weeks pregnant, a little less than two months after her son Gage celebrated his first birthday. For Amy, motherhood was previously an unobtainable goal due to her weight, which at one point reached over 400 pounds. But now, she’s able to have the family she always dreamed of.

In 2020, when 1000-Lb. Sisters fans first met Amy and her older sister Tammy Slaton, who is over 600 pounds, the YouTube sensations were chugging countless “sodies” a day, desperate for a major life change. Amy quickly qualified for bariatric surgery and dropped an impressive 100 pounds. Though she was instructed by Dr. Proctor to wait some time before having kids, Amy became pregnant with Gage a few months post-surgery. It was high-risk, but Gage entered this world happy and healthy. Ever since, she’s been working to build a better environment for her baby. This involved addressing her hoarding tendencies and purchasing a spacious Halterman home – another longtime ambition.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Recently, Amy and Michael invited a small group of family and friends over for a gender reveal party, a video of which Amy shared on her YouTube channel. The house was decorated with pink and blue balloons and streamers, and guests made their guess by placing a tally mark and their initials under “boy” or “girl” on a whiteboard. Only three people put their tally marks in the “boy” section, with the remaining seven convinced Gage would have a little sister. The moment of truth came when Amy held up a massive card that said, “It’s a…” When she flipped it open, it read, “BOY!” As her guests excitedly cheered, Amy was noticeably disappointed because she had her hopes up for a girl. Still, she and Michael had a name ready – John Allen, nicknamed John Boy. Someone in the background, possibly one of Amy’s sisters, wasn’t thrilled and stated, “I ain’t calling him no John Boy.”

Amy’s fanbase flooded the comment section of her video with messages of congratulations. One subscriber said, “I’ve literally never been so excited for another human being in my life. The person Amy’s becoming is astonishing. The progress she made, the goals she reached, the happiness she welcomed in her life through persistence, vulnerability and kindness…” Many were in agreement that Gage will be an amazing big brother, especially given that they’ll be so close in age. Her fans also assured her that, despite the baby not being a girl, everything will be OK. One said, “When the new baby is born it will be immediate everlasting love no matter what gender it is.” It was also suggested that Amy can try again for a girl in the future.

On a recent episode of 1000-Lb. Sisters, Dr. Proctor warned Amy that a second pregnancy would also be high-risk since she’s still considered “morbidly obese.” He added that the pregnancy will also likely continue to halt Amy’s weight loss journey. Hopefully, now that Amy is settled into her new home and no longer has the burden of Tammy living next door, she’ll be able to make healthier choices and not give into cravings for her sake, as well as Michael and their children.

The finale of 1000-Lb. Sisters season 3 airs on TLC on Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. ET.
