15 Boruto Characters Stronger Than Naruto (And 15 Who Are Way Weaker)

Boruto  is the sequel series to Naruto, continuing to tell the ninja tales of the Konohagakure shinobi. The series particularly shares the journey of Boruto, the son of Naruto Uzamaki.

Boruto only seeks to become a strong ninja doing things his own way. Naruto, though, always had the goal to become Hokage and the strongest ninja in the world.

By the end of the Fourth Shinobi War, Naruto seemed to have all his dreams come true. He had become more powerful than ever. His generation of ninjas saved the world. He was now in line for the Hokage position, and only a few years later would get that dream job.

As Boruto goes on, though, it becomes more and more apparent that the Seventh Hokage is not as powerful as he once was.

The desk job of his dreams has made him weaker, rustier. There are now several character who have become stronger than Naruto and it shows.

The balance of powerful ninjas is swiftly shifting towards the newer generation, full of bright, powerful young shinobi.

However, there are still some characters way weaker than Naruto, even as his strength wanes.

Here are the 15 Boruto Characters Stronger than Naruto (And 15 Way Weaker).

30 Weaker: Sakura Uchiha

Sakura was one of the founding members of Team 7 in the original Naruto series. She also endured Sasuke’s dissent, the Fourth Shinobi War, and the world almost ending. Sakura is tough no matter what way you look at it.

However, by Boruto, Sakura has settled into the humdrum life of a mother. She does little except care for her daughter, Sarada.

Her abilities are there, but they are rough from little of use, and in comparison to Naruto, Sakura is basically a soccer mom with some useful tricks up her sleeve.

Still a capable protector and ninja, but nowhere near the massive power of the Seventh Hokage.

29 Stronger: Orochimaru

Orochimaru’s attachment to snakes is more fitting than one may expect. He is powerful, treacherous, and sneaky. However, what’s more relevant is that he’s slippery.

Though Naruto has been facing the reptile-loving villain since season 1, by Boruto he’s still alive an well, continuing his unorthodox and often cruel experiments.

To be able to face Naruto so many times and live shows grit and strength. Even more, though, is that Orochimaru created life.

Through his synthetic son, Mitsuki, Orochimaru shows a level of intelligence and determination that Naruto never could achieve. This is why, even if Naruto “wins,” he never seems to be able to defeat Orochimaru.

28 Weaker: Chocho Akimichi

Chocho is a child, so it seems logical she’d be weaker than the famous Seventh Hokage. The catch, however, is that in theory she should be stronger than she is. Chocho’s clan is strong and proud.

At times her father, Choji, has shown power greater than even Naruto himself. But Chocho at times struggles with self-confidence.

This can be a great detriment in feeling right in her own body and truly coming into her own abilities.

Chocho may look up to Naruto, but until she works more on herself, she is much weaker than the Seventh Hokage.

27 Stronger: Himawari Uzamaki

Any Uzamaki child is bound to be a knockout. And for Himawari, that’s meant literally. At the young age of three, Himawari got fiercely angry with Boruto.

Because of her anger, her Hyuga Clan Byakugan became activated and she moved to attack her brother.

Naruto got between the kids, trying to avoid anything serious. However, in her rage, Himawari hit her father in his chakra points and knocked him unconscious. This is a feat few adult ninjas can claim.

If Himawari can down the Seventh Hokage in a single blow, it’s frightful how much stronger she will be as she matures.

26 Weaker: Mirai Sarutobi

Mirai is loyal, dependable, and a fantastic protector. She has been entrusted with guarding several Hokages and helps trains the young, strong Shikadai Nara.

By all accounts, she is a fantastic and admirable shinobi that deserves all the love she gets.

However, when comparing her to Naruto, there truly is no comparing to do. When he was a young ninja, his lack of discipline would have certainly done him in.

However, now that he is older, wiser, and the leader of the entire village? Mirai was beaten by the headstrong duo of Boruto and Sarada.

There is no doubt she’d be way weaker than the Hokage himself.

25 Stronger: Momoshiki Otsutsuki

Once upon a time in Naruto, the shinobi worked together to defeat Kayuga, a proverbial world-eater. In Boruto, dimension-crossing clansmen of hers come to earth to find out what happened to her. Momoshiki was one of these clansmen.

When Naruto, Sasuke, and others faced Momoshiki and his foster father, Kinshiki, Sasuke was overwhelmed by their power.

He deemed them a greater threat than Kayuga ever was. He was clearly right, as Momoshiki was even willing to consume his own father to become stronger.

Only the combined efforts of Sasuke, Boruto, and Naruto finally brought the vicious enemy down. If Naruto had been alone, Momoshiki would have been too strong for him to handle.

24 Weaker: Katasuke Tono

Every village needs a healer, a scientist, an innovative mind. Katsuke fills that vital role in Boruto. He creates new things, protects others, and only wants to improve the land he lives in.

Katsuke’s morals are only corrupted when a villain deliberately taints them. He’s practically the antithesis of Orochimaru when it comes to science.

However, this does not make him strong. Katasuke can heal, and create, but he only knows basic ninja moves.

The Village Hidden in the Leaves needs him for his industrious mind. He could make their ninjas and village even stronger. However, he is painfully weak in comparison to the Hokage, Naruto.

23 Stronger: Rock Lee

Naruto introduced everyone’s favorite bushy-browed master of taijutsu. Boruto solidifies Rock Lee as a powerful jonin with unique abilities.

However limited by his lack of ninjutsu and genjutsu, Lee more than makes up for it with his fighting spirit, well-trained body, and his ability to open many of the Eight Gates.

By adulthood, he can open seven gates. Kakashi notes that most talented ninjas can’t even open one.

By Boruto, Naruto is less regimented and relies heavily on his raw power. Rock Lee, on the other hand, trains daily, can use seven out of eight gates, and is as fierce as ever.

Naruto may be stronger, but Rock Lee might be stronger.

22 Weaker: Metal Lee

Being the son of Rock Lee, Metal already is set up to be quite powerful.

He can open three of the Eight Gates, he is masterfully trained in taijutsu, he’s considered a genius, he has strong skills with shurikens, and he even can perform some ninjutsu, something his father could never do.

However, despite Metal’s disturbingly high levels for potential, he has severe social anxiety and gets stage-fright during fights– often.

This glaring flaw is something he has to overcome, because beyond that? He could become one of the strongest ninjas out there. Until he resolves his anxieties, though, he is much, much weaker than Naruto.

21 Stronger: Iwabee Yuino

Iwabee was the top fighter in his class, but could never graduate because of his terrible written test scores. He was lazy, but it often seemed like he was lazy because he had no drive to go anywhere else with his life.

Once he meets Boruto, though, Iwabee picks up the pace and joins the ninja path with everyone else.

Though his parentage is unknown, and unseen, it’s been theorized Iwabee is actually from the Land of Earth, hence his proficiency in earth releases.

Beyond this, though, Iwabee is also strong in taijutsu, ninjutsu, bukijutsu, and various earth releases and transformations. He’s adaptive and a well-roundedly powerful. Iwabee contest Naruto fairly well.

20 Weaker: Iruka Umino

Naruto’s pseudo-father and teacher, Iruka, has always been a heartfelt member of his story. In Boruto, Iruka sticks around to be an all around great guy.

He is, of course, principal of the Academy by now. Plus he’s still giving Naruto sage advice, like the fact he should balance family and work better, and also is an endlessly kind figurehead to contrast the hard ninja life.

Iruka, however beloved, is simply not the fighter that Naruto is. He’s proficient in all basic ninja skills, can shield, can use echolocation, can create and see through illusions.

However, he couldn’t evade Naruto’s raw strength. Iruka is quite weak next to that.

19 Stronger: Gaara

Gaara was intimidating in Naruto, and he’s still intimidating as the Fifth Kazekage. When he was young, he was the host the one-tailed beast, Shukaku. This helped foster his powerful sand abilities.

Even as a young six, Gaara was able to fight off and kill assassins sent by his own father.

By Boruto, he’s even adopted a son. Gaara is stronger than Naruto in parenting alone, but also in being a leader. People expected the worst of him, but he became fiercely protective of his village.

Instead of a fear-monger, he became a pillar of strength. Naruto may leave people in awe, but he could learn a thing or two from Gaara’s leadership.

18 Weaker: Denki Kaminarimon

Denki has struggled since the beginning of Boruto, and despite the fact his peers are helpful, is still fairly behind his graduating class.

While his efforts are admirable, Denki is hardly the strong ninja. He’s only useful in a team setting and is always willing to assist.

His friendship with Boruto is heartwarming and admirable, spanning ability levels. And Metal Lee wanting him to join in on the Lee family training to get stronger is too cute to handle.

But if Denki had to face off with Naruto? The sweet, young ninja would be toast.

17 Stronger: Kinshiki Otsutsuki

The largest third of the Otsutsuki clan that visit earth, Kinshiki is a fierce, immovable force. Kinshiki is the adopted father of Momoshiki.

His dedication to his foster son is so strong that when Momoshiki was in danger, Kinshiki offered to transform himself into a chakra pill without hesistation. Anything to protect his son, right?

Kinshiki is fierce as a warrior as well as a father. While Naruto loves his children and battles with all of his soul, Kinshiki quite literally died to give his son a better chance.

Naruto doesn’t stand a chance against the loving, vicious, tank of a man.

16 Weaker: Udon Ise

Udon has always had an interesting life as a member of the Konohamaru Gang. The threesome was a group of loyal, fun-loving friends.

Unlike Konohamaru and even Moegi, though, Udon struggled through school. It took him several attempts to even graduate Ninja Academy.

Eventually, he was able to perfect some techniques with his teammates, but ultimately was still very weak on his own.

By Boruto, Udon is known for creating powerful water tendrils from his nose mucus. That about sums up Udon’s impactful abilities. While a well-meaning, dedicated jonin, Udon is fairly weak– especially when compared to Naruto standards.

15 Stronger: Chojuro

Chojuro is the Sixth Mizukage, the protector and leader of the Village Hidden in the Mist. He also is one of the last generation of Kirigakure’s Swordsmen of the Mist.

Chojuro and Naruto met because he used to be the Fifth Mizukage’s bodyguard. The Hidden Mist ninja also excels is using a mixture of water techniques and elite weapons to be a daunting foe.

By Boruto, Naruto is counted as the strongest Kage, but Chojuro is deemed the best swordsmen and assassin.

Because of this, as long as Chojuro is clever and catches Noruto by surprise, he could do some real damage to the powerful ninja. He could even overtake him.

14 Weaker: Wasabi Izuno

Wasabi is a young ninja who desperately wants to help her community. She’s fast, she’s determined, and she likes cats.

Wasabi also has healing powers, even though she isn’t quite good at utilizing them. She is good at using scrolls, as that’s where most of her cat powers come from.

Wasabi will one day become a dedicated ninja guardian of Konohagakure. However, this doesn’t mean she’s the greatest of shinobi.

Unfortunately for Wasabi, now and in the future, it’s hard to see her ever standing a chance against someone like Naruto. Doesn’t make her any less fun or likable, though.

13 Stronger: Kawaki

Aggressive, powerful, and willing to take people out, Kawaki is a hard ninja to deal with. In the anime, he’s only seen at the beginning and is revealed to have done something horrible.

From what can be seen, he has had a lot of mechanical modifications done to his body. He’s also willing to beat an older Boruto to the edges of his life.

Kawaki refuses to stop his tirade on anyone’s account, destroying everything in his path.

Even though we know so little, how could we know how he’d match up to Naruto? Because Kawaki reveals that the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzamaki, was defeated by his hands.

12 Weaker: Kabuto Yakushi

Kabuto was friendly, then not-so-friendly, to downright sinister in the original Naruto series. Kabuto was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of other ninjas.

He was also known as Orochimaru’s right hand and a talented shinobi, rivaling even Kakashi or Lady Tsunade.

To preserve his master, though, Kabuto heavily strains his body and it truly and irreparably damages him.

In Boruto, Kabuto is not in jail for his crimes. Instead, he is the director of the local orphanage. Now, he mostly only taps into his healing abilities.

Weakened from years of bodily harm, mental trauma, and repression, it’s not that Kabuto is inherantly weak. It’s that he likely has little to no fight left in him.

11 Stronger: Mitsuki

Orochimaru made a long string of strange, terrible experiments in his lifetime. One of the strangest, and safest, was the creation of his son, Mitsuki.

Mitsuki is technically the mad scientist’s clone, but the boy seems to have full mental autonomy and a different outlook on life. He very much wants to become a shinobi and a hero.

As Mitsuki is synthetic, it’s unknown how long his life will be or if he may gain any new, unique abilities. Orochimaru himself acknowledge his son’s potential strength.

Mitsuki has already shown the ability to use a Sage form, summon snakes, and utilize lightning attacks. Naruto would be wise to respect the strength of this unusual boy.

10 Weaker: Urashiki Otsutsuki

Unlike Momoshiki and Rinshiki, who have ultimate goals of fighting and destruction, Urashiki seems to have different goals.

Unlike his bombastic clan memebers, Urashiki avoids fights more often and instead spends more time collecting pieces of different, strong chakras.

Urashiki seems much more clever and slippery than either of his compatriots.

It can be assumed that Urashiki avoided fights to avoid destruction, and is collecting chakras to gain power.

If he and Naruto fought when he first came to earth, it’s likely Naruto could have pummeled him with his powers. He seems easily the weakest of the three.

However, Urashiki isn’t that stupid, and might become something far more frightening in the future.

9 Stronger: Konohamaru Sarutobi

Fans met young Konohamaru early in Naruto, when he tried to fight his grandfather to become Hokage. The kid was only about six years old.

Konohamaru admires Naruto and ends up trying to learn all he can from him. As they age, Konohamaru becomes a fantastic ninja who retains his goal of becoming Hokage.

Konohamaru is impressive because of his own powers on innovation and creativity. Every skill he’s given he learns and then grows upon, making it his own.

He hilariously creates several variations of Naruto’s original female jutsu ability. Naruto has power, but Konohamaru has better experience and adaptive strength.

One day, he’s sure to kick Naruto out of that Hokage’s desk.

8 Weaker: Sumire Kakei

Sumire is a sweet, cute girl who was raised all her life to manipulate and hurt others. Sumire excels at water projectiles and walls, stealth, speed, and restriction.

Most frightening, though, is her summoning bond with her father’s science experiment, Nue. Sumire eventually respected her friends more than revenge and turned herself in.

While raised to be an avenger, Sumire is ultimately just a young girl coerced into being a weapon. She’s still strong, but she emotionally has a lot to grow into.

While powerful, Sumire needs to strengthen her will before ever facing someone like Naruto.

7 Stronger: Shikamaru Nara

Naruto was offered the role of Hokage because he saved the world and it had been his dream all of his life. However, Shikamaru could have been a better man for the job.

Naruto can inspire confidence, lift spirits, and fight hard. Shikamaru doesn’t have the flashiest powers, but he is an impeccable leader.

He is a fantastic tactician and is methodically organized. He has been leading teams far longer than Naruto, becoming a chunin as a rookie. Shikamaru even took over his duties for a little while to lighten the load.

Naruto may be the shining hero, but Shikamaru is a leader to his very core. That kind of strength deserves more respect.

6 Weaker: Gekko

Gekko is a troubled man from the Land of Snow. He built up the Byakaga gang and, throughout several episodes of Boruto, is terrorizing Konohagakure.

Gekko is proficient in leadership skills, strategy, manipulation, and mind-warping capabilities.

However, once an opponent knows how Gekko’s genjutsu works, he becomes much weaker. Look away and he can’t warp your mind and memories.

All Naruto has to do is figure out his power and Gekko is out for the count. While deceptive and effective, Gekko is way too weak to ever battle it out with the Seventh Hokage himself.

5 Stronger: Sasuke Uchiha

The Sasuke vs. Naruto argument went on for fifteen long years while the Naruto series progressed. Ultimately, the show called it a tie. Uchiha blood vs. Uzamaki and Nine-Tails powers’ were matched.

However, when Boruto came back to their stories, things seemed to have changed. While both men are powerful, Naruto has been preparing for Hokage and working tirelessly on that dream.

Sasuke, on the other hand, was constantly on missions, training, and keeping his body in peak ninja shape. Naruto himself said he was getting rusty from being Hokage.

After all this time, it’s very likely that Sasuke is now far more powerful than Naruto. All because one of them took a desk job.

4 Weaker: Darui

Darui is the Fifth Raikage, fearless leader of the Land of Lightning. Darui is strong in using a long sword, speed, and lightning– particularly, the dangerous and powerful black lightening.

Darui has great stamina, endurance, and can certainly pack a hit. However, he easily can be considered the weakest of the Boruto-era Kages.

He serves the same function as Naruto, a persistent heavy hitter, but is simply not as good as the Seventh Hokage.

Head to head, Darui has no chance against Naruto. He will always be a strong ninja and leader, but he can’t overpower someone who outclasses him.

3 Stronger: Boruto Uzamaki

Naruto’s son, and the title character of Boruto, is quickly established to be stronger than his father.

However, unlike Naruto, Boruto has little to no hero’s calling. He isn’t one to quit, but Boruto deliberately doesn’t want to be Hokage at all.

The first time a job sounds appealing is when he meets the wandering Sasuke, a lone ninja fighting evil.

Despite his flaws, Boruto has the same competitive spirit as his father, the same passionate flare, and love for shadow clones.

Boruto is a formidable opponent for anyone.

Boruto spent all of his life trying to be anything else. He’s assuredly learn how to use his inherited strength to be even stronger.

2 Weaker: Shin Uchiha

Shin was a former test subject of Orochimaru and, even more interestingly, is not a member of the Uchiha clan.

Orochimaru gave him a Sharingan, adding to Shin’s Uchiha obsession. Shin eventually tries to experiment on his own and creates a clone army of smaller Shins.

With grand intentions, Shin tries to abduct Sarada Uchiha with his clones.

Though a fascinating and terrifying combination, Shin’s weakness lies in his pride. He assumed his clones would want to follow him, but the longer they lived, the more they became individuals.

His life was ended by his own creations. While Naruto could have defeated him, he didn’t even have to. Shin defeated himself.

1 Stronger: Hinata Uzamaki

Hinata is the wife of Naruto, mother of Boruto and Himawari, and daughter of the Hyuga clan. Because of her quiet and shy disposition, many people think Hinata is weak.

However, this is the furthest from the truth.

Hinata and Naruto work because she complements all the traits he lacks. Hinata is a wonderful parent, an attentive ninja, a utilitarian fighter, and a powerful support.

Naruto is the hero, but Hinata is someone capable of making sure people like him can go save the world. This is arguably just as important and strong as being the hero ever can be.

Can you think of any other Boruto characters who are stronger than Naruto? Sound off in the comments!
