5 Places In The Star Wars Universe We’d Like To Visit (& 5 We’d Stay Away From)

The Star Wars universe is a sprawling and thrilling creation of boundless possibilities. Its characters are, of course, iconic and the main reasons behind the franchise’s overwhelming success, but the universe itself is nothing short of spectacular. It is chock-full of intriguing and dazzling territories, from the elegant Kamino, home of mighty fortresses atop the sea, to the exotic Cato Neimodia, the land of cities within bridges.

Places like Ahch-To are authentic paradises, isolated natural marvels, far from the maddening crowd, and ideal destinations perfect for an unforgettable holiday. However, locations like the misty Dathomir are desolated, hazardous, or even outright lethal, proving that danger may be lurking around the corner, even in distant galaxies.

10 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Mustafar

Mustafar is the location for the now-iconic duel between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Beyond this fun bit of trivia, there is no reason to stop by this horrifying world. Mustafar is a volcanic planet where no visitor could survive for long.

Lava surrounds every inch of the planet, and numerous active volcanoes make the environment very unstable. Vader Immortal reveals that Musatafar used to be a lush and prosperous planet before becoming volcanic after an ancient battle. Perhaps it would’ve been a worthy destination then, but Mustafar is less than ideal as it currently stands.

9 Would Like To Visit: Naboo

Visually breathtaking, Naboo is among the most bountiful planets in Star Wars canon. As a prominent location of the much-derided prequel trilogy, fans get plenty of chances of seeing Naboo’s splendor, which spreads through the land and deep below the waters. Wars and conflicts throughout the movies affected the otherwise peaceful planet, but it remains an ideal destination in the franchise.

Naboo seems to be the pinnacle of leisure. It fosters the artistic sensibilities in its inhabitants, resulting in a lively, bohemian planet, where every visitor can discover the artist within. Cities like Moenia and the capital of Theed showcase a variety of breathtaking classical architecture, bound to marvel anyone with even the faintest of artistic sensibility, while regions like the Lake Country and the Great Grass Plains display some of the planet’s bountiful natural gifts.

8 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Dagobah

According to Star Wars lore, Dagobah is one of the “purest” places in the galaxy within the Force. It served as the refuge of Jedi Master Yoda during his exile and witnessed Luke Skywalker’s Jedi training. A swamp and bog world in the Outer Rim Territories, Dagobah is not without its dangers. Many of the planet’s fauna is outright deadly, and the environmental conditions are harsh.

Dagobah has only two seasons, one too wet and one too hot. During the latter, all lifeforms must migrate to the lower lands or risk dying under the heat. Dagobah might be a pivotal place in the Star Wars universe, but any tourist that dares visit it should know it’ll probably be a one-way trip.

7 Would Like To Visit: Cloud City

Ever since its debut in The Empire Strikes Back, Cloud City has remained influential in popular culture. It’s a city in the clouds, with landmarks like the Apex Overlook and Paradise Atrium providing visitors with everything necessary for a pleasant stay. Tourists can spend all their money in any of the city’s renowned casinos, like Yarith Bespin or Pair O’Dice, or engage in some sightseeing using a cloud car.

Cloud City also has many luxurious resorts that can be very expensive. However, the facility is worth the price. Cloud City is ideal for a short and eventful stay, the perfect vacation spot to escape from everyday routine and spend some time among the clouds.

6 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Jakku

There’s nothing remarkable about Jakku. Introduced as the homeworld to divisive Star Wars heroine Rey in The Force Awakens, Jakku continues the franchise’s tradition of lawless, inhospitable desert planets.

However, and unlike Tatooine, Jakku doesn’t seem to have any redeeming qualities. It is what it looks like: a cruel, distant, and unappealing place where no one would like to visit, much less live. It does have some notable locations, like the spaceship graveyard, but considering it’s unlikely to re-appear in any future project, Jakku would be no one’s chosen destination.

5 Would Like To Visit: Canto Bight

At first sight, Canto Bight is the Las Vegas of Star Wars. Opulent, over-the-top, and outright hypnotizing, the city/casino is a favorite destination for wealthy and decadent individuals in the franchise. Arguably the most luxurious location in Star Wars, Canto Bight is visually dazzling and mesmerizing.

Visitors can spend entire days in the city and never get tired. If they’re tired, they can pamper themselves with a relaxing massage at Zord’s Spa and Bathhouse. If they want to satisfy their sweet teeth, they can pay a visit to Café Raduli in the Old Town Area. Or if they’re looking to get frisky and let loose, they can dance the night away at Ubialla Gheal’s nightclub. Finally, if they’re on the hunt for that classic gambling experience, they can focus their stay on the Canto Casino and Racetrack.

4 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Canto Bight

Then again, it only takes one closer look to understand that Canto Bight is a cesspool of moral depravity. Moved only by money and rampant with corruption, the casino stands on the shoulders of numerous child workers. Animal cruelty and environmental exploitation further worsen Canto Bight’s standing. Furthermore, the casino is a favorite of war profiteers from across the galaxy, making it a collection of dubious and reprehensible figures.

Canto Bight plays a prominent role in The Last Jedi, but its intervention is ultimately fleeting, just like its overall purpose in the galaxy. It may have considerable superficial charm, but it’s only a facade. The reality is Canto Bight is rotten and one of the worst places across the stars.

3 Would Like To Visit: Coruscant

According to Star Wars lore, Coruscant was the original homeworld of humanity. It serves as the capital of the galaxy and witnesses many of the franchise’s most pivotal moments. Coruscant’s history is long and convoluted, but throughout the story’s numerous conflicts, it remained a crucial player in galactic matters. Coruscant is notable for its towering skyscrapers and many technological advancements. During the Republic, it was home to the Jedi Temple and the Galactic Senate.

Its places of interest are too many to count. Intellectuals can spend entire days in the city’s numerous museums, like the Bureau of Ships and Services Herigate or the Museum of Multispecies Sciences. Culture lovers can visit the Galaxies Opera House, while those looking for more of a playful time can drop by the Outlander Club. Coruscant’s involvement in history makes it the marriage of old and new, tradition and modernity. It withstood wars, invasions, a Republic, an Empire, a New Republic, and many wars still to come. And yet, it remains, glorious and undefeated, the ultimate symbol of power and might in the galaxy.

2 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Kashyyyk

Chewbacca stars in some of the most heroic moments in Star Wars, earning the audience’s love and respect. However, not many people would love the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. At first sight, it might seem incredible, with its tree houses and its unbelievable amount of green.

Things change when the reasons for said treehouses become apparent. Many raging and man-eating creatures such as giant spiders and carnivorous plants rule Kashyyyk’s lower level. Furthermore, the planet lacks seasons, meaning a temperate jungle climate perpetually governs the surface, which can get tiresome after a while. Fans will surely get to visit Kahshyyyk in future installments of the series, and that should be more than enough.

1 Wouldn’t Like To Visit: Tatooine

Out of all the places in Star Wars, it’s bizarre that anyone would want to visit the desert planet of Tatooine. According to the franchise’s lore, Tatooine is in the middle of nowhere and too hot to support large populations. It’s also very unsafe, thanks to a convenient location that makes it a haven for outlaws and the natural wildlife adapted to the planet’s scorching suns.

Why, then, would anyone want to visit this endless desert? Because it’s the heart of the franchise, plain and simple. Tatooine is the birthplace of legends, the planet that saw Anakin and Luke Skywalker grow to achieve greatness and–in the former’s case–infamy. Tatooine is the franchise’s cradle, an iconic location that will forever live on under the bright lights of two suns.
