90 Day Fiancé: Why Jasmin & Blake Never Appear On Franchise Spin-Offs

Blake and Jasmin Abelard appeared on season seven of 90 Day Fiancé. Their appearance was met with complaints from Blake, who questioned why the couple didn’t show up until the fourth episode. Their late arrival was a sign of things to come, as the international couple has been largely frozen out of the franchise. Why is 90 Day Fiancé choosing not to feature Blake and Jasmin on their newest spin-offs? There are a few possible reasons to consider.

Blake and Jasmin didn’t exactly grip viewers when they appeared on 90 Day Fiancé. Jasmin, from Finland, was most known for her aversion to work, as she claimed working just isn’t her thing. The honest line was not received well by Blake’s mother, a Los Angeles local who didn’t want her son to be taken advantage of. Blake’s claim to fame was his aspiring music career as a rapper and producer. The two are still together, and most likely living in relative harmony. They did appear on the Discovery+ spin-off Love Games, a game show designed to test couples’ knowledge of each other. But aside from that short appearance, they haven’t been invited on any TLC spin-offs.

Blake and Jasmin’s absence from the franchise is not by choice. In fact, Blake seemed angry that he wasn’t informed about the many spin-offs, which include 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, 90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined, and Pillow Talk. In January, Blake posted an Instagram story where he wrote, “Shout out to TLC & Discovery for not informing me and Jasmin about any of their new shows.” He continued to tell his followers that he invested in Discovery Plus “right before their launch,” and is now “getting paid more frequently than from when I was on the show.”

Since Blake revealed it wasn’t his and Jasmin’s choice to not be involved, many are wondering why TLC didn’t want them on any new spin-offs besides Love Games. The most likely answer is that they’re just not as interesting as some of the other couples. For one thing, they seem to be doing well, as they’ve been married for two years. TLC much prefers to follow on-again, off-again relationships like Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi or Larissa Lima and Eric Nichols. The more drama the better, as far as TLC is concerned. Blake and Jasmin simply don’t offer many conflicts for TLC to profit off of. Fans also remarked the pair were somewhat low energy during their season, lacking the charisma that other long-lasting couples, like David and Annie Toborowsky, have.

Secondly, Blake may have rubbed TLC execs the wrong way. A few months ago he threatened to “bust a Larissa” and sign a contract with CamSoda in order to get out of his TLC contract. Larissa had her contract with TLC revoked for appearing on the competing entertainment site. It’s unclear why Blake would want out of his contract, but when stars complain about their contract it’s often because they have information they want to share but are not allowed to. Fans will have to wait and see if any information does come to light after Blake and Jasmin’s contract ends (though he never did sign with CamSoda).

With so many 90 Day Fiancé couples to choose from, it seems Blake and Jasmin just didn’t make the cut for the many Discovery+ spin-offs that continue to air. However, there is clearly still some interest in the couple, who at least are in a genuine relationship. Maybe TLC will change its tune and give Blake and Jasmin a chance to prove themselves watchable in a spin-off yet to come.
