Animal Crossing Fan Gets Delightful Surprise After Inviting Tom Nook To Tea

An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player recently discovered a heartwarming detail after inviting Tom Nook to the café. The iconic raccoon dog, who is typically found running a village store, serves as the mascot for Nintendo’s social simulation series. While many players see Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Tom Nook as a villainous figure, the tanuki does have a softer side too.

Most entries in the Animal Crossing series start off with Tom Nook selling the player a house in exchange for a mortgage. This means that gamers are immediately in debt to Nook, and he is intent on collecting Bells regardless of the Villager’s financial circumstance. Many gamers have come to associate Tom Nook with greed, with many Animal Crossing fans even considering him to be the main antagonist of the franchise. However, others argue that the character treats the player fairly by hiring them and selling them a home, and Tom Nook’s apprentices Tommy and Timmy also reveal a more caring side to the infamous swindler.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons player and Reddit user machi_ballroom received a wonderful surprise after inviting Tom Rook to the café. Players are able to invite specific neighbors to Brewsters to join them for a hot beverage, and they typically arrive alone. However, machi_ballroom discovered that Tom Nook will bring Tommy and Timmy with him to enjoy some quality time with the player. Villagers taking others with them to the café is a unique occurrence, demonstrating how much the raccoon dog cares for his two apprentices.

While Tom Nook has become the de facto mascot of the Animal Crossing series, the tanuki actually made his first English-language appearance in Super Smash Bros. In December 2001 Tom Nook appeared in Smash Bros. Melee as a collectible trophy, which explained his role as a shopkeeper and realtor. However, the first Animal Crossing installment did not reach these countries until September 2002, meaning that those who played Nintendo’s crossover fighting game entry received a sneak peak at the infamous anthropomorphic raccoon dog.

Animal Crossing players have grown to dislike Tom Nook, since they always seem to owe the character money at the start of every new title. Tommy and Timmy help to humanize the memorable Villager, however, and based on machi_ballroom’s discovery he seems to care for his two young wards. While their exact relation is unclear, Tom Nook clearly loves the two boys enough to take them on a fun café trip.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on Nintendo Switch.
