Aquaman 2 Title & New Logo Revealed: The Lost Kingdom

Director James Wan confirms the official title for Aquaman 2 is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. DC’s aquatic hero used to be an easy mark for jokes in pop culture, but that all changed once Jason Momoa was cast as Arthur Curry for the DC Extended Universe. His roles in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League teased a new take on Atlantis’ rightful king under Zack Snyder’s direction. Once James Wan got his hands on the character for Aquaman, the tone shifted dramatically and made Momoa the star of a wildly fun and entertaining solo movie.

To the surprise of everyone, Aquaman became the DCEU’s biggest success once it was released in December of 2018. The movie earned positive reviews and grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. This brought Warner Bros. and DC Films to quickly begin working on a sequel with Wan returning to direct. Aquaman 2 has taken a few years to truly pick up steam ahead of a December 2022 release date. Details on the sequel have been kept under wraps, though, as even the basic premise and official title were not revealed in the past.

Wan has provided an exciting update on Aquaman 2 as the start of filming looms. The director revealed the sequel’s official title on his Instagram: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. This also is the first look at a new logo treatment for the sequel, although it is unclear if this is the final logo. The title and logo reveal comes as Wan is in the middle of a production meeting with others involved in the sequel. He teased that the “tide is rising” with this new information. Now that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is officially confirmed as the sequel’s title, it shouldn’t be long before more information on it arrives. The cast currently includes the returns of Amber Heard (Mera), Patrick Wilson (Ocean Master), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus), as well as Game of Thrones‘ Pilou Asbaek joining the ensemble. With filming scheduled to begin next month, more cast members will likely be announced shortly. But, the title itself does provide us with new details on the movie.

Aquaman 2‘s title builds off of the story of the first film and is a clear connection to the Seven Kingdoms of Atlantis. The first movie explored the history of the kingdom and what happened once it fell into the ocean. These seven kingdoms include Atlantis, Xebel, Fisherman, Brine, Trench, and Deserters. These known six kingdoms were featured in Aquaman, and the movie also included a brief reference to a lost seventh kingdom. After Arthur Curry united the remaining kingdoms of Atlantis in Aquaman‘s finale, it appears that the lone kingdom out of his rule will factor heavily into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
