Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora News & Updates: Everything We Know

Ubisoft’s E3 presentation gave fans of the studio the first look at their newest project, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Developed by Massive Entertainment, a studio owned by Ubisoft, in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney, the first glimpses of the project seem promising. Fans of the franchise have experienced a lengthy content drought, with the last Avatar game releasing in late 2009, the same year as the film. Gaming technology has advanced leaps and bounds since then, promising a fresh new experience in the beautiful world of Pandora.

The eagerly awaited sequel to the original Avatar movie, which is scheduled to be released in December 2022. Despite the similar timeframe of releases, Ubisoft’s website promises that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a “standalone story“. While characters from the movies may appear or be mentioned, the story of the game will not tie into the cinematic universe.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora trailer is beautiful, there is no indication that this will be what the game proper will look like. The trailer consists entirely of cinematic shots and is likely not an accurate representation of actual gameplay. Despite this, Ubisoft has given potential buyers a glimpse into the creatures and environments present in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The return of the iconic banshees and direhorses, as well as the villainous RDA, to deliver on the classics of the Avatar universe. The trailer explores an entirely new region of Pandora, allowing players to interact with different tribes of Na’vi.

Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Release Date

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora does not have a definite release date, but is expected to release at some point during 2022. This is the same year that Avatar 2 is set to release in theaters, but whether the game will release before the sequel is unknown. Since the pandemic has delayed the development of many video games, it is not out of the question that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may suffer a similar fate. Games that have been pushed out to meet deadlines have often suffered rocky launches, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Given Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora had not been discussed before E3 and has not yet shown any real gameplay, future delays are certainly possible.

Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Story

Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora reveal trailer doesn’t give away many specifics about the game’s campaign. Despite the lack of information about story, the cinematics shown in the trailer offer enough evidence to put together a rough outline of events to expect. The presence of humans piloting mechs and other military vehicles confirms the presence of the RDA (Resources Development Administration), meaning the search for and harvest of unobtanium is still in effect. This activity will likely result in the exploitation of Pandora’s environment, and with so combat throughout the trailer, it is likely the Human-Na’vi conflict will be a major element of the campaign.

Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Gameplay

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person action-adventure game set in the world of Avatar. Players will take control of a Na’vi character, a native species of Pandora, and will embark throughout a never-before-seen region of the planet known as the Western Frontier. The trailer makes a point of emphasizing various activities, such as flying, riding, exploring, and interacting with other Na’vi. It’s possible that animals may be used as mounts, since pa’li (direhorses) and ikran (banshees) are shown being ridden several times in the trailer, and it is likely that players will use more primitive weaponry such as bows and arrows to face hostile fauna and humans across Avatar’s Pandora.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, using the Snowdrop engine’s latest version. Thanks to this engine, Massive Entertainment looks to develop an immersive open-world experience for players to enjoy with top-tier graphics. The official Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora website promises “a living and reactive world” full of different creatures and characters in this new area of Pandora.
