Back to the Future Stars to Reunite in Hallmark Christmas Movie

Back to the Future stars Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson will reunite in an upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie. Both actors have remained synonymous with their roles in the 1984 science fiction classic and its two sequels. Lloyd played Doc Brown, the eccentric mad scientist who whisks Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) off on an adventure in a time-traveling DeLorean. Thompson played Lorraine Baines-McFly, Marty’s alcoholic mother in the 1984 present, who he befriends as a teenager when he travels back to 1955.

If there’s one channel that could bring these stars back together in holiday style, it’s Hallmark. In recent years Hallmark has risen to the top of the heap when it comes to providing nonstop Christmas content for fans of holiday romance. Their popular Countdown to Christmas marathon will begin the week before Halloween, with a new movie arriving every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting October 22. There are 41 movies set for the Hallmark Christmas season this year, including the Jordin Sparks feature A Christmas Treasure.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Hallmark is bringing Thompson and Lloyd back together in Next Stop, Christmas, which will air on Hallmark on November 6 at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The film tells the story of Angie, a woman who regrets turning down an ex-boyfriend who went on to become a famous sportscaster. When she takes the train to return to her hometown, she finds it controlled by a mysterious conductor and ends up transported a decade into her past. Although casting details aren’t fully confirmed, star Lyndsy Fonseca (Agent Carter) will likely be playing Angie and her love interest role will probably be filled by her co-star Chandler Massey (Days of Our Lives). From the two first-look images released, it’s quite obvious that Christopher Lloyd will be playing the conductor, with Thompson most likely playing Angie’s mother. Check out the images below:

The last feature-length fiction project to feature both Lea Thompson and Christopher Lloyd was 1996’s TV movie The Right to Remain Silent, so this reunion has been a long time coming. However, both actors have been working consistently since that point. Unfortunately, the Howard the Duck reboot Thompson pitched to Marvel didn’t pan out, but among other projects, Thompson starred in the ABC Family series Switched at Birth from 2011 to 2017. Christopher Lloyd has also made a home for himself on TV, making appearances on many TV shows along with major voice roles in PBS Kids’ Cyberchase and Cartoon Network’s Over the Garden Wall.

Audiences may feel like they themselves have gotten into a DeLorean while watching the film. While it’s not certain that the Back to the Future stars will actually share a scene together, that would be an opportunity Hallmark couldn’t possibly want to miss. Fervor for the franchise has only gotten hotter as its 40th anniversary approaches, with tributes pouring in from every corner of the Internet and television. There are even new BttF collectible figures available. Those who don’t want the McFly madness to end should definitely mark their calendars.
