Below Deck: How Dangerous Is The Mustard Gas The Crew Created?

Fans of Below Deck watched as the stew concocted a dangerous toxin, but how dangerous is mustard gas, and should they have been worried? As it turns out, mustard gas can be toxic in the right context. Luckily, it did not cause permanent injury to the crew.

Elizabeth Frankini has four years of yachting experience and was supposed to be a strong second stew. The new reality star believes in following the stars and astrology and also loves to be of the Zen mind and body. Unfortunately, none of these mindsets are helping her win over the chief stew as she is coming across as a lazy worker instead of enlightened.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Bravo fans watched in horror as a crew member got to the bottom of why the stews started to feel sick and dizzy while in the crew quarters. The chief engineer let Captain Lee know that it all boiled down (pun intended) to the toxic mixture stew Elizabeth Frankini had mixed together while doing the laundry. Even though Elizabeth claimed she just mixed soap and bleach, which is still toxic, the crew started to feel the side effects which included, coughing, nausea, shortness of breath, watery eyes and throat, nose and eye irritation.

Fans learned that the bleach and soap mixture had actually created mustard gas. The mixture can be made by using household items, but many felt that Elizabeth should have known better. Any department of health will tell you never to mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners since it can lead to severe injuries. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sulfur mustard is a substance that is known for its ability to be used in chemical warfare. When the skin and eyes are exposed to it, the chemical can cause irritation. For many, it was common knowledge to always read the product label before using any cleaning product. Any form of ammonia-based products that are mixed with bleach can be fatal. The rule of thumb is usually only laundry detergent is safe to mix with bleach.

While Elizabeth has yet to be fired, fans are sure her one-way ticket is not too far away. But some are blaming the chief stew for the incident since Elizabeth did ask for help and was ignored. Either way, the interior crew needs to start working together before the whole ship implodes.
