Boba Fett is Becoming His Father (Literally)

Warning: major spoilers ahead for  Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1!

Star Wars most dangerous bounty hunter Boba Fett is becoming his father — literally! The biggest Star Wars comics crossover event has begun and already Boba has his hands full with a new job. In order to complete it, he will need to temporarily be his father in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1.

Boba Fett is the son of Jango Fett, who was also a renowned bounty hunter. Jango was killed on Geonosis during the Clone Wars, but his son — an unaltered clone of Jango — lived on. Boba continued training to be a bounty hunter, which he began learning under his father’s tutelage. Since then, Boba has had many associates in his line of work to help teach him the ropes and to help him complete jobs. Now, however, he is on his own in a dangerous new adventure.

Created by Charles Soule, Steve Mcniven, Laura Martin, and Vc Travis Lanham, Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 kicks off the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event. Boba Fett has captured Han Solo and is trying to complete a bounty job. However, it isn’t a quick and easy job when credits are low. Boba needs to pay for some upgrades to keep Han Solo preserved properly and to get the money, he needs to take down a target. This target won’t come easy and reaching her will require Boba to take up his father’s name as his own.

The latest target for Boba is Wyrmen Lictor, a Kanjii Hutt-associated competitor in the Nar Shadda fighting arenas. Because Boba is doing a job for Jabba the Hutt, it wouldn’t make sense for him to upset another Hutt clan. It also wouldn’t be a good idea to throw his name out into the open considering the job he has taken up. The bounty for Han Solo is high and this crossover event is built around the idea that everyone wants Han, and therefore, they want to get to Boba. If he participates in a fighting competition and catches too much attention, it would give him away readily. So to maintain his identity and avoid any suspicion, Boba signs up for the competition under his father’s name.

This decision becomes even more important when the skilled bounty hunter successfully reaches his bounty. Wyrmen is an arachnid-like fighter who is the reigning champion in this event. Boba easily makes a good impression on the crowd, being referred to as the Mando Maniac and Beskar Brawler. The fight he has with Wyrmen is also a very skillful one that the fan-favorite hunter has trouble winning — though he does succeed. His skill definitely demands everyone’s attention and if he hadn’t hidden his identity, he would be facing major difficulties — more than he already has ahead of him. Boba Fett was already continuing his father’s legacy through his work as a bounty hunter, but now Jango Fett’s name will live on with further respect as a skilled fighter in this event, thanks to the quick-thinking of his son.
