Breath of the Wild’s Landscape Will Dry Out After Rain, Player Finds

Even approaching five years after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s release, there are still mechanics that players are discovering. The game’s weather system, which can include rainstorms across the world of Hyrule, will eventually dry. This incredible new detail adds a new layer of depth to what is considered to be one of the greatest installments in the iconic franchise.

Breath of the Wild’s open-world was praised for its intricacy and detail. Players were constantly finding new and interesting interactions with NPCs in BotW‘s world, new ways to defeat enemies, and new, previously-hidden, rewards to unlock. Famously, one fan managed to show a bunch of Breath of the Wild‘s NPCs reactions to the Tingle armor set, which puts Link into the garb that Zelda wore in previous games. One player now has discovered a very cool detail about BotW‘s weather system.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Twitter user DaysBotw (via Nintendo Life) showed that after a rainstorm strikes in Breath of the Wild, that rain will dry out over time. DaysBotw posts two images of a landscape, one after rainwater has pooled after a storm and then another 199 days later. Surprisingly, the later version shows that most of the water has dried out and what was once a massive puddle is now mostly dried out. A few small puddles remain, but it is a stark contrast to the original picture.

The weather system in Breath of the Wild is one of the most complex in gaming and has been lauded for its complexity. One BotW player showed a time-lapse of several days in Hyrule as several storm systems pass by. Over days, viewers can see the clouds change, sunny days and starry nights, and even a brief snowstorm. The entire video looks incredibly authentic to real life weather changes and adds so much to the realism of Breath of the Wild.

While fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment into the Legend of Zelda series, the fact that they are able to still find these small details allows for an incredible amount of replayability. Rumors and news of a possible Breath of the Wild 2 continue to swirl, but thusfar Nintendo has not provided any confirmation of when a sequel would release. Luckily, as DaysBotw has shown, there are still plenty of hidden tricks that players can discover as they keep playing Breath of the Wild. At least they know that if there is storm, their world won’t be left flooded forever.
