Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 5 Times Buffy Was Like Faith (& 5 Times Faith Was Like Buffy)

Buffy and Faith embark on parallel journeys throughout Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Both Slayers choose different paths: Faith succumbs to darkness whereas Buffy continues to be a champion of the light. But despite their contrasting morals, the two Slayers share several similarities and are more alike than either would care to admit.

Buffy and Faith’s relationship is easily one of the show’s most intense and engrossing pairings. The Slayers push each other to the brink and learn from each other, even while battling to the death. Here are five times Buffy behaved like Faith and five times Faith’s attitude mirrored Buffy’s.

10 Buffy: Dancing With Xander To Make Angel Jealous

In Season 2’s “When She Was Bad,” Buffy struggles to cope with the aftermath of her confrontation with the Master. The Slayer technically died in Season 1 before Xander resuscitated her. Buffy returns the favor by seductively dancing with him at the Bronze.

The Slayer dances with her friend to make Angel jealous, manipulating Xander’s feelings for her. Buffy is understandably recovering from trauma in this episode, though she ultimately displays a Faith-like disregard for Xander and his emotions.

9 Faith: Leading The Slayers

Faith inadvertently steps into Buffy’s shoes during Season 7. After returning to Sunnydale to help defeat the First Evil, Buffy is ousted as the leader of the Slayers. The Potentials rally around Faith instead, choosing her to lead them.

This decision ends in disaster as she leads them straight into a trap. Faith discovers a new appreciation for Buffy after momentarily bearing some of the other Slayer’s responsibilities.

8 Buffy: Partying With Faith

Buffy embraces the similarities she shares with Faith during Season 3’s “Bad Girls.” The “bad Slayer” encourages her blonde counterpart to find fun in their sacred duty. The two characters blow off steam following a vampire hunt by partying at the Bronze.

This episode culminates with a bleak turning point for Faith when she accidentally kills a human. Buffy realizes that she can’t follow the same dark path, but not before she is tempted by the other Slayer’s carefree lifestyle.

7 Faith: Helping Angel When He Loses His Soul

Faith shares a poignant friendship with the ensouled vampire throughout Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. When Angel loses his soul again and reverts to the evil Angelus, the rogue Slayer breaks out of prison and returns to Los Angeles to help him.

Angel helps Faith find redemption after her descent into villainy, so Faith returns the favor by facing off against Angelus. Like Buffy, the second Slayer showcases undying loyalty to her friends and fearless determination in the face of evil.

6 Buffy: Sleeping With Spike

Buffy is no stranger to forbidden romances with sultry vampires. After returning from the grave in Season 6, she begins a tumultuous affair with Spike. Their passionate tryst soon turns ugly, though Buffy finds herself repeatedly drawn back to the vampire.

Buffy’s behavior with Spike mirrors many of Faith’s characteristics. Both Slayers possess a deep-rooted attraction to darkness.

5 Faith: Going To Prison

Angel helps Faith atone for her mistakes after she arrives in Los Angeles. Faith is initially hired by Wolfram & Hart to kill the ensouled vampire, but Angel soon realizes that Faith intends to die at his hands and encourages her to seek redemption instead.

Faith willingly goes to prison to make up for the hurt and pain she has caused. Buffy makes a similar choice in Season 6’s “Dead Things” after the Trio tricks her into believing she murdered Katrina.

4 Buffy: Trying To Kill Faith

Buffy and Faith have an epic confrontation in Season 3’s “Graduation Day, Part One.” Angel’s life hangs in the balance when Faith shoots him with a poisonous arrow. To save her boyfriend, Buffy sets out to kill Faith and harvest her blood as an antidote.

Buffy manages to defeat Faith, but she jumps from a building to prevent Buffy from utilizing her blood. Buffy’s plan is unsuccessful, but she demonstrates a Faith-like ruthlessness and capability for murder.

3 Faith: Telling Buffy How To Defeat The Mayor

Following their epic showdown, Faith and Buffy reunite in a dream sequence that highlights their mystical connection. Faith subtly hints at Dawn’s upcoming arrival, as well as cryptically telling Buffy how to defeat the Mayor.

This is the first instance of Faith showing remorse for her actions and attempting to atone by assisting Buffy. Despite her fatherly relationship with the Mayor, Faith helps Buffy prevent his Ascension and proves that, like the other Slayer, she is capable of being a hero.

2 Buffy: Torturing A Vampire For Information

Buffy displays several Faith-like traits in Season 2’s “When She Was Bad.” While searching for the kidnapped Scooby Gang, Buffy confronts one of the Anointed One’s followers. The Slayer uses her crucifix to torture the vampire for her friends’ whereabouts.

This mercilessness is another characteristic that aligns with Faith’s personality. Buffy proves that she is willing to utilize brute force in her fight against evil.

1 Faith: Saving People From Vampires

Faith exacts revenge on Buffy in Season 4’s “Five By Five” when she uses magic to swap bodies. Initially, Faith is content to sabotage Buffy’s life before fleeing Sunnydale. When a group of vampires ambush a church congregation, however, Faith realizes that she can’t turn her back on her Slayer duties after all.

Faith returns to Sunnydale to help defeat the vampires and save the human hostages. Despite the terrible things she has done, Faith shares more similarities with Buffy than she cares to admit. Both Slayers are compelled to help innocent people and use their powers to fight against the forces of evil.
