Capcom’s Gaming Lineup For the Next Four Years Appears To Have Leaked

The recent major Capcom hack seems to have spoiled the company’s next four years of video games. The developer has already planned some big releases for the near future; Resident Evil Village has been announced as the landmark horror series’ first next-gen title and a sequel to the wildly successful Resident Evil VII. Monster Hunter Rise is also on the horizon, slated for a Switch release in March of 2021. Its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, is Capcom’s best-selling game of all time.

Earlier this month, Capcom was hit by a major ransomware attack. This upset led the company to shut down its server entirely, but it seems it was too little too late. Many of Capcom’s upcoming titles have since been leaked to the masses, including the release date for Resident Evil Village, which is apparently set for a release in April 2021. That’s just the tip of the iceberg for major leaks from the company, which has been sent into full damage control mode by this hack.

As reported by PushSquare, the release date for Resident Evil Village is just the tip of the iceberg. The hackers seem to have made off with Capcom’s entire release schedule through 2024. The plans include even more entries in the Resident Evil series, including mysterious titles named Resident Evil Outrage (set to release in the fourth quarter of 2021) and Resident Evil Hank (Q4 2024). The company is also expanding its recent tradition of remaking earlier games in the series by planning a remake of Resident Evil 4 for the fourth quarter of 2022. Resident Evil 4 isn’t the only Capcom classic getting a remake either; players can look forward to remakes of Final Fight (Q2 2024) and Power Stone, an obscure 3D arena fighter from 1999. Several sequels are also in the works, including Dragon’s Dogma 2 (Q2 2022), Monster Hunter 6 (Q2 2023), and Street Fighter 6 (Q3 2022), with an “Ultra” version coming in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Leaks are far from rare in the video game industry, but this one in particular is distinctive thanks to its incredible severity. Unfortunately, as exciting as this news is for video game fans, it’s surely incredibly demoralizing for Capcom and its employees. It’s also dangerous; Capcom has reported that as many as 350,000 customers might have had their personal information leaked to the hackers.

Capcom does seem to have some excellent games on the way. It’s surprising for fans to see obscure titles like Power Stone and Dragon’s Dogma getting some love again. The Dragon’s Dogma sequel in particular should be exciting for RPG fans or people who enjoyed the game’s Netflix adaptation. And with so many projects on the horizon, it’s sure to be a good generation for Resident Evil fans. This leak is a tragedy, and the behavior that led to it should not be encouraged. It’s important to remember how devastating leaks like this are to the people in the video game industry, even as fans pore over the list of Capcom‘s future.
