Cobra Kai Season 5 Terry Silver Story Teased By Thomas Ian Griffith

Thomas Ian Griffith, who plays Terry Silver in Cobra Kai, gives a glimpse of what’s in store for his character in season 5 of the popular Netflix series. The sequel series to The Karate Kid premiered on YouTube in 2018 and saw stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, and Martin Kove reprise their career-defining roles as Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso, and John Kreese, respectively. Newcomers to the Karate Kid universe cast included Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Gianni DeCenzo, Jacob Bertrand, and Peyton List.

Cobra Kai is once again set in what has been dubbed as the “Miyagi-verse,” 34 years after the events of The Karate Kid, in which Daniel defeated Johnny to be crowned as the winner of the 1984 All-Valley Karate Championships. The series takes a deep dive into the universe from Johnny’s perspective and explores his decision to re-open the infamous Cobra Kai dojo. However, Cobra Kai season 4 of the series also saw Thomas Ian Griffith reprise his role as the notorious Silver from 1989’s The Karate Kid: Part III.

While speaking to THR about the success of Cobra Kai season 4, Griffith took a brief moment to tease the future of his character, Silver, in season 5. The actor mentioned that the Cobra Kai season 5 storyline will show audiences Silver’s “next level” and delve into a “fascinating” hypothetical scenario for the character, which the show’s creators outlined as “What if Terry had won the All Valley Karate Tournament in 1989?” Check out his quote below:

“You’re going to see the next level of Terry Silver. It is like what the creators say, “What if Terry had won the All Valley Karate Tournament in 1989?” So we’ll explore that — and it is fascinating.”

The story of Karate Kid 3 took place a year after the first film. It saw Daniel and Mr. Miyagi’s old foe, John Kreese, seek the help of his best friend and fellow Vietnam War comrade, Silver, to gain revenge for his loss in 1984’s All-Valley tournament. After a fallout with Mr. Miyagi, Daniel is lured into joining Cobra Kai and physically put through the wringer as Silver attempts to break his body and spirit. The ruthless martial artist set him up against his ever-improving protege Mike Barnes in the 1985 All-Valley final, but ultimately came up short. Daniel went on to win his second title in a row, forcing Silver to shelve his plans to expand the Cobra Kai dojo. Given this history, Cobra Kai season 4 bringing back Silver promised (and delivered on) the re-opening of old wounds.

The outcome of the Cobra Kai season 4 finale presents a perfect opportunity for Silver to keep his promise after over three decades, as Tory Nichols defeated Miyagi-Do’s Sam LaRusso in the Women’s All-Valley Karate finals, which subsequently made Cobra Kai the overall winners and awarded them the trophy. Following Tory’s victory, Silver announces his plans to start franchising the famed dojo, which was long in the making. However, he would have to take on the giant undertaking by himself as he chooses to frame fellow sensei and friend, John Kreese, for the assault on Raymond “Stingray.” These events sublimely establish Silver as Cobra Kai‘s next big bad in what already promises to be an intriguing season 5, and fans are no doubt eager to see what a “next level” of Terry Silver could look like.
