CoD: Warzone 2 Map & Release Date Revealed

Infinity Ward has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Warzone 2, including the upcoming battle royale shooter’s massive map and impending release date. The first iteration of the free-to-play title launched back in 2020 as a tie-in to the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Earlier this year developer Infinity Ward confirmed another joint release of CoD: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, with the two projects being inseparably linked.

Call of Duty: Warzone has changed substantially since it first launched back in 2020. The battle royale shooter originally collaborated with Modern Warfare, with players engaging in large-scale firefights across the expansive map of Verdansk using modern weaponry. However, Warzone has tied into each subsequent entry in the Call of Duty series since, with the launch of Black Ops Cold War triggering a shift towards a 1980s setting. Last year’s Call of Duty: Vanguard launch signaled another dramatic change, with Verdansk being abandoned in favor of a World War II map called Caldera. Technical issues and cheaters also plagues the free-to-play title, which apparently motivated Infinity Ward to rebuild the Call of Duty battle royale into Warzone 2.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was recently detailed during the CODNext Showcase Event, which was streamed on YouTube by Call of Duty. The battle royale shooter is set to release on November 16, mere weeks after the October 28 launch of Modern Warfare 2. The expansive Call of Duty experience will take players to a new map called Al Mazrah, which was built for next-gen combat with various new features. Water will be a major focus in Warzone 2, with players traversing rivers and flooded areas with boats or swimming around for aquatic combat. A new multi-circle closure system, an overhauled Gulag 2.0 and intimidating Strongholds will also help make the upcoming battle royale even more intense.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Is A Battle Royale Revolution

Since it has been rebuilt as a brand-new experience, Call of Duty: Warzone progress won’t carry over into the upcoming Warzone 2. Every gameplay innovation being implemented into Modern Warfare 2 will apparently be reflected in Warzone 2, with the two titles sharing a physics engine and arsenal of weapons. Vehicles will be much more reactive in Warzone 2, with players able to shoot out of windows or blow off tires and needing to refill vehicles with gas. Gulag 2.0, which sees two fallen players team up to survive and return to Al Mazrah, will also make Warzone 2 a completely new experience compared to the original version of the game.

Call of Duty: Warzone was a very popular addition to the first-person shooter franchise, and Warzone 2 looks to be a complete overhaul. Al Mazrah will provide brand-new gameplay opportunities by letting players attack from the ground, air or water and face off against AI-controlled enemies. Gulag 2.0 and Strongholds will help deliver a revolutionary battle royale experience when Call of Duty: Warzone 2 arrives on November 16.
