Colossus’ New Pirate Look Proves He’s Still Marvel’s Biggest Thirst Trap

WARNING: Spoilers for Dark Ages #4 ahead!

The literal “Man of Steel” from Marvel Comics known as Colossus has been considered an iconic “Thirst Trap” X-Men character for years because of his calm, friendly demeanor and burly strength. But his recent pirate-look in Dark Ages #4 really leans into Piotr’s sex appeal. The X-Men have long been seen as the most fashionable and attractive superhero group in the Marvel Universe, and the comics have been spending some of their House of X relaunch reestablishing classic characters as the sex icons they have always been seen as.

Piotr Rasputin was first introduced in 1975’s Giant Size X-Men #1 from Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, which saw the debut of Professor Xavier’s second class of young mutants. Piotr was a simple Russian teen working for his family’s Soviet commune-farm when Xavier took him back to Westchester for schooling and since then the huge, tender man has grown to be a staple of the X-Men roster. Colossus has been known for his bouts of pacifism, his long running on-and-off relationship with Kate Pryde, his bond with his dark sister Ilyanna (Magik), and his undeniable sexiness. Piotr is often shown without his shirt, glistening organic metal muscles on full display, and it is very clear that Marvel knows how people perceive him, giving fans of Colossus just what they wanted in the pages of Dark Ages.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Dark Ages – written by Tom Taylor (All-New Wolverine, DCeased, Injustice) with art by Marvel Stormbreaker Iban Coello – follows the characters of the Marvel Universe as their world loses all electricity due to an EMP blast set by Doctor Strange. This loss of power is never more evident than in Dark Ages #4 when a pirate refugee team led by Nightcrawler needs to move a massive Helicarrier with no electricity. The newly proletariat-looking Colossus, whose shaved head, beard, dungarees and massive muscles are just what the heroes need. With his wildly impressive powers Colossus is able to move the ship’s heavy anchors, becoming an even more impressive ally to the free world as his strength and dedication make him more valuable (and attractive) than ever.

Colossus’ sexy pirate costume in Dark Ages is not the only time in recent memory that Marvel has tried to remind its readers that everyone should be into Piotr, with the older Rasputin showing up to the decadent Hellfire Gala in a much fancier costume than his usual casual look. While Colossus’ physique is undeniable it is also his warm, kind, hospitable personality that makes him such a high contender for Marvel’s Sexiest Mutant. Piotr has always been portrayed as the level headed, ethical, and thoughtful X-Men, and has sacrificed his own life for the good of the world several times, so that mixed with his devilish good looks is an instant recipe for making him a fan favorite crush.

Piotr’s appeal as the sweet boy next door, with massive muscles (who also happens to be from Soviet Russia), has been established for decades in the pages of Marvel Comics, and it is nice to see creators finally leaning into this side of him. Colossus is a bona fide sex icon, and Pirate Colossus is just one more version in a long line of Piotrs who would make any person swoon. Make sure to pick up Dark Ages #4 to get the full picture on how the X-Men’s kindest member Colossus reigns supreme as a Marvel Thirst Trap.
