Community-Led Shiny Hunting Event Features Pokémon That Can’t Be Caught

A member of the PokémonShiny hunting community is hosting an upcoming special event that features only Pokémon that can’t be caught. These types of Shiny Pokémon are known as uncatchable Shinies and are among the least hunted of all Pokémon. Many players stray away from these hunts as the target Pokémon is only for looks and can’t be taken home afterward.

Shiny hunting is a beloved hobby for many Pokémon enthusiasts, but it can require a lot of patience. Some hunts, like the new Dynamax Adventures in Pokémon: Sword & Shield, offer ridiculously low odds that suit the most casual of Shiny hunters. Other hunts test a player’s true limits taking hundreds of hours to complete. This can be due to low odds, bad luck, or tedious Shiny hunting methods; but the prized Shiny Pokémon at the end of the tunnel makes the grind worth it. But what if Shiny hunters spent countless hours searching for something they couldn’t catch in the end?

ShinyCollector, a Pokémon content creator on YouTube, is hosting one such event that only hardcore Shiny hunters will be insane enough to take on. This week-long event has been named Uncatchable Week during which trainers are challenged with hunting only Shiny Pokémon that can’t be caught. ShinyCollector announced the event on Twitter and provided a list of Pokémon that players can hunt (but can’t catch). Uncatchable Week will start on March 27th and run until April 4th.

For the less enthusiastic hunters, ShinyCollector also included a list of semi-uncatchable Pokémon. While there are various community-led Shiny hunting events (Safari Week, Rumble Weekend), this is the first where every trainer participating will walk away with nothing even if they do find a Shiny. This may deter a large number of hunters from participating in the event, but as Bob Dylan once said, “People who suffer together have stronger connections than those who are most content.

That’s what these community events are all about in the end. Bringing a community of Shiny enthusiasts together whether there’s a prize at the end of the event or not. Sure, it’s always cool to walk away from a hunt with a brand new Shiny Pokémon under one’s belt, but Uncatchable Week may reward players with more than just a new Shiny experience. Shiny hunters have a couple of months to decide whether they are going to commit to a week of an inevitably failed Shiny, and hopefully, a large number of hunters will come to suffer together.
