Control: Every Costume & How To Get Them

Warning: This article contains minor SPOILERS for Control.

Control features a variety of costumes for Jesse Faden to wear, and we tracked down how to earn them all. As Jesse wanders off the New York City sidewalk and into The Oldest House, she has no idea of the adventure she’s about to experience. As a result, she’s not exactly dressed for the occasion, wearing a pretty casual outfit consisting of some chic jeans and a leather jacket.

As the story of Control starts to unravel, revealing hidden secrets and shedding precious light on impenetrable mysteries, the player can find additional costumes for Jesse to wear, in addition to her default duds. None of the costumes are ridiculous or jokey, and they all fit Jesse’s character, though some are more unusual than others.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

All told, there are six costumes in Control, including Jesse’s starting clothes. Some can be found in the world, while others need to be unlocked by completing side quests. Still, others come as part of the main storyline. None of these clothing options offer any gameplay benefit, and are purely cosmetic additions to Jesse’s loadout. Here’s how to unlock every alternate costume in Control.

Asynchronous Suit

Arguably the coolest outfit in the game, the Asynchronous Suit can be viewed early on in a room in the Synchronicity Lab, being worn by a particularly chic mannequin. Unfortunately, the glass is completely immune to being shattered. As the story progresses, a new side mission will open up, called “Self-Reflection”. This mission takes Jesse back to the Synchronicity Lab, specifically to Mirror Testing. After completing the trippy mission, and facing off against the difficult boss, Essej, the player will find the glass previously guarding the Asynchronous Suit to be shattered. The costume can now be taken with no further hassle, allowing Jesse to dress up as her Hiss-corrupted mirror counterpart.

Candidate P7

Most observant players will likely obtain the Candidate P7 costume without even thinking about it. After finally meeting up with Dylan for the first time, Jesse will be sent to the Prime Candidate Program in the Containment Wing. Here, the player can explore the P6 and P7 rooms, which are located right next to the Closed Cases room, which has some provocative plot threads for Alan Wake fans. The P7 costume, which consists of a decidedly unflattering ensemble of drab workout clothes, can be scooped up in the P7 room.

Office Assistant

The professional Office Assistant costume is worn by Jesse near the end of the story, in a particularly notable dream sequence, the context of which we dare not spoil here. After completing Control for real and being returned to The Oldest House, the Office Assistant costume can be worn at any time.

Director’s Suit

Like the Office Assistant costume, the Director’s Suit is obtained simply by beating the game. It’s an authoritative choice, fitting of the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control. Interestingly, it’s the only outfit which changes Jesse’s hairstyle, and comes with a cool FBC pin on the lapel.

Janitor’s Assistant

This will likely be the final costume most players unlock in Control. Early on, Jesse encounters the enigmatic janitor of The Oldest House, a man who clearly knows much more than he lets on, though he coyly refers to the player character as his assistant, giving her numerous side missions to complete. Players should periodically return to the cork board in the Janitor’s Office to get more missions. Once all five are complete, a sixth mission, “Take a Break”, will be unlocked. Completing this quick mission will unlock the Janitor’s Assistant outfit. Wearing this costume will allow Jesse to dress appropriately while cleaning up the Bureau’s mess.

Updated: Gold Suit

The most mysterious outfit in the game, the Gold Suit, can be unlocked through a puzzle. While fairly easy to acquire when you know the solution, it’s a real brain teaser to those who may not even realize they’re attempting a puzzle. To get this elusive suit, head over to the Luck & Probability wing of the Research Sector once you’ve acquired Level 5 clearance. Open the Level 5 door to find a conspicuous roulette wheel.

The goal here is simple: win at roulette. However, this is easier said than done, as Jesse must find ways to manipulate her luck in order to get the desired effect. There are several items throughout Luck & Probability, and the whiteboard in the room offers clues as to what to do with objects like the horseshoe, koi fish, and the four-leaf clover. Once all the objects are properly activated, and Jesse’s luck has been boosted appropriately, return to the roulette wheel. If Jesse’s luck has been effectively raised, she’ll win the game and receive the chic Gold Suit and two ability points.
