Benjamin Samuel had viewers falling in love with him during Dating Around episode 2. Not only viewers, though, as he and Alex went on a second date by the end of episode 2. Now fans of the Netflix show are wanting to know whether Ben and Alex are still together.
California-born professor of computer science Ben and jazz singer Alex instantly connected over their love for musicals. As well as hitting it off with some of the women, Ben had a fair deal of awkward moments on some of his Dating Around dates. For example, when Stephanie revealed that she was a student at the University of New Orleans, Ben had to work out whether it was acceptable for them to be on a date together. He relieved the tension by saying, “But, you’re not my student, I have no power of what grades you have, I don’t know any of your professors.” Ben was super genuine during all of his dates, totally engaged with what all the women had to say and he didn’t seem afraid to be open about his feelings, either. When it came to the subject of Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans, Ben got emotional and said, “There’s something about the city, like a city is just a bunch of buildings, right? Until you fill it with people. I think the people of New Orleans are absolutely incredible.“
Ben’s five dates consisted of Jaden, Shamerick, Kat, Stephanie and Alex. From a search of both Ben and Alex’s Instagram pages, it doesn’t look like they’re together. However, they could just be choosing to keep their private lives under wraps. While Alex follows Ben on IG, Ben doesn’t follow her back. Ben does follow Shamerick on Instagram, though, so maybe things didn’t end well with Alex. Perhaps Alex and Ben weren’t meant to be as he also exchanged numbers with Kat and initially asked Jaden out, only for her to decline.
With any luck, Ben has found love with Alex. He had only been in one 10-year-long relationship and was ready to find the love of his life. Episode 2 saw Ben’s friends describe him as “a diamond in the rough“, a “hopeless romantic” with a “great heart and great charisma“. Another added that he’s a “funny, emotional caring man“, “he’s brilliantly smart and compassionate“. It was clear to see that Ben was a gentleman as he turned up at the New Orleans restaurant with flowers for all his dates.
It would be disappointing if Alex and Ben weren’t still an item as the last that viewers saw of the pair, they were headed off for a romantic picnic. It seemed that the Netflix couple had a fair deal in common, too. Alex said she was looking for a connection and they both agreed they were wanting to find someone they could relate to on a lot of different levels. Ben seemed to wear his heart on his sleeve a little more with Alex; in the taxi after their date, he described her as “beautiful and kind” and added, “There aren’t a lot of people in the world like you, Alex.“
Many fans of the pair have taken to Instagram to comment on Alex’s photos to ask about her relationship status. She has replied but simply ‘likes’ the comments, so there’s not a lot to take from Alex’s IG at this point. While Alex looks to have had her IG page a while, Ben only has two posts so he must not be so into the social media site. The Dating Around couple did exchange numbers so with any luck, they keep in contact that way.
