David Ramsey’s John Diggle Returns To The Arrowverse In Batwoman Season 3

David Ramsey is set to return to the Arrowverse, with an upcoming appearance in Batwoman season 3. The actor has long been a part of The CW’s signature superhero franchise, portraying John Diggle since the earliest days of Arrow. Initially beginning the series as the bodyguard of lead character Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), the two would gradually become close friends as Ramsey remained a part of the cast throughout the show’s eight seasons. In the finale, though he’s ready to make a move to Metropolis with his family, Diggle discovers a box in the wake of a meteor crash. When opened, the box gives out a bright green light. The scene was taken as a sign that Ramsey was poised to be the Green Lantern.

To the frustration of some fans, the Arrowverse has yet to fully deliver on that possibility. Still, Ramsey has continued to have a presence in the franchise both in front of and behind the camera. In the past year, in addition to directing four Arrowverse episodes, the actor has guest-starred on Superman & Lois, Supergirl, The Flash, Batwoman and, in an inspired turn that’s typical of Legends of Tomorrow, Ramsey cameoed as the historical figure Bass Reeves – the first Black deputy marshal West of the Mississippi River.

According to TV Line, Ramsey will reprise the role of Diggle in an upcoming episode of Batwoman season 3. Diggle will factor into episode 9, which will air on January 19 and is titled “Meet Your Maker.” Failing to give up on the idea of rehabilitating her son Marquis (Nick Creegan), Jada (Robin Givens) turns to an old friend for help. It’s possible that the old friend in question is Diggle, who has certainly been a mentor to Batwoman characters in the past.

When he showed up as part of Batwoman season 2, Diggle acted as a listening ear to Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson). Understandably furious and looking to confront a Crow member that shot him, Luke ends up bonding with Diggle. They share stories of losing their fathers, both at young ages, and ultimately Diggle advises Luke against violence in what is a helpful moment. Still, with how busy the world of Batwoman has become in season 3, Diggle has his work cut out for him.

A new promo for the series offers a glimpse of Bridget Regan’s arrival as Poison Ivy and, as it relates to Marquis specifically, it’s been shown that he’s holding Luke hostage at one point. Marquis even seems to be channeling the Joker, namechecking the iconic rouge at one point. If anyone can handle the high stakes of Batwoman season 3, though, it might just be Diggle. After all, he has years of experience in the Arrowverse to prove it.
