DC Comics Reveals Lois Lane’s Secret Agent Brother

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Justice League #65

In the latest issue of DC’s Justice League, it’s been revealed that Lois Lane has a secret brother. However, the identity and backstory of this new family member is quite the enigma, going only by the name Daemon Rose when he approaches Green Arrow and Black Canary for help as he’s being hunted by a rival operative. This new debut of the brother of Lois Lane seems to be connected to the counterintelligence war currently happening in the DC Universe between the giant Leviathan and the newly created Checkmate.

In DC’s new series Checkmate from writer Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, a new Checkmate has been formed by several key figures in the intelligence community and beyond, featuring the likes of Green Arrow, Steve Trevor, the Question, the Manhunter, Director Bones, The mysterious King, and Lois Lane herself. In the wake of Leviathan’s absorption of several counterintelligence agencies to become the powerhouse organization it now is, this new Checkmate is looking to put a stop to the group’s efforts.

Now, Justice League #65 from Bendis and artist Steve Pugh sees the Daemon Rose approaching Green Arrow and Black Canary, needing their help and trying to gain their trust by claiming that he’s the brother of Lois Lane, having been trained by his father general Sam Lane who recently died during Leviathan’s takeover. In any case, it seems as though the Daemon Rose is desperate for help, as he’s long been hunted by an assailant wearing armor resembling Deathstroke’s (though it’s confirmed not to be Slade Wilson).

Lois Lane’s secret spy brother also reveals that he was once an effective agent of ARGUS thanks to Sam Lane’s training, at least before Leviathan shut the organization down when they forcibly took over. Now, it seems as though Lois’ brother is in for a wild ride, and an even crazier family reunion given Lois’ membership and involvement in this new Checkmate series. It’s only a matter of time before she discovers his existence. Regardless, it seems likely that Lois never knew about any siblings beyond her younger sister Lucy, though one has to wonder why Sam Lane kept her brother a secret for years.

In any case, it seems as though the Daemon Rose has some explaining to do with Lois Lane, including what his real name even is. Furthermore, while the enigmatic ex-ARGUS operative seems to have fallen out of favor with whoever hired this non-Slade Wilson Deathstroke to kill him, Checkmate and/or the Justice League should be able to lend a hand as both series continue from Brian Michael Bendis.
