D&D Vet Vin Diesel & Family Posts Video of First Campaign With Ruby Rose

This past weekend, Vin Diesel took to Instagram to share a video of him and his family preparing Ruby Rose for her first D&D campaign. Vin Diesel’s love of the tabletop role-playing game is no secret, for years the Fast & Furious actor has spoken fondly of campaigns he’s partaken in with cast mates and family members. In fact, his character in The LastWitch Hunter was inspired by D&D.

Diesel even brought his Dungeons & Dragons know-how to Critical Role in 2015, joining the crew for a special episode cleverly titled, “D&Diesel.” While the campaign served as marketing for The Last Witch Hunter, there’s no denying Diesel had a blast assuming the role of Kaulder the Witch Hunter during this time with Critical Role. The actor also celebrated his birthday in 2015 with a D&D cake, created to look like the Players Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual all stacked atop one another. His love for the game hasn’t subsided either, evidenced in a new Instagram video that features an appearance from actress Ruby Rose.

Ruby Rose joined fellow xXx: Return of Xander Cage alum Vin Diesel over the weekend for a game of Dungeons & Dragons with his family. Diesel shared the news on Instagram with a video, noting in the caption that it marked Rose’s first-ever D&D campaign. Partway through the video, Diesel’s son, Vincent, tells the audience he’s playing Dungeon Master for the first time, then goes on to lovingly refer to his father as D&Diesel and nicknames The Meg and Batwoman actress Ruby Rolls.

When he’s not acting or introducing friends such as Ruby Rose to the wonders of Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, Vin Diesel also takes part in game production. In 2002, the action star founded Tigon Studios, which co-published The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay in 2004. The company additionally had a hand in other Riddick titles, along with the Diesel-starring Wheelman and last year’s Fast & Furious Crossroads.

D&D faithful, probably Vin Diesel included, are all patiently awaiting the advent of Dungeons & Dragons 5.5, which should release sometime in 2024. Wizards of the Coast shared the news during D&D Celebration 2021, noting that early development has begun on the 5.5 update. Notably, players can look forward to new versions of the three core rulebooks, as well as backward compatibility with 5.5 and the existing 5.e set of rules.
