TLC’s Doubling Down with the Derricos has gained double the popularity over the past few weeks. Everyone wants to know more about the famous family with their 14 children. Doubling Down with the Derricos is an American reality television show that premiered on TLC on 11 August. The show airs every Tuesday night at 10 pm and features Deon Derrico, his wife Karen Derrico, and their first 11 children. The series begins with Karen, 40, who’s pregnant with triplets, again. Karen’s husband, 49-year-old Deon Derrico is a real estate investor, and the family of 14 stays in a four-bedroom house in Las Vegas. Stay at home mother Karen is a Kingstree native who graduated from Kingstree Senior High School in 1998. Karen herself comes from a family of multiples that had four sets of twins on her mother’s and two sets of triplets on her father’s side. Karen left for Greensboro North Carolina, three days after her graduation to become a flight attendant when she turned 20 according to Kingstree News. The TLC star’s mother Mary Carter still lives in Kingstree to look after her 90-year-old grandmother. Karen, who loved to dance, met Deon at a Detroit club in 2002 when she was actually supposed to be attending church. And thus, dance became something that the Karen and Deon still enjoy doing with their Doubling Down with the Derricos family.

Deon Derrico has a wonderful back-story of his own. Detroit native Deon was born after his late brother Chris to Eddie and Marian Derrico. As per IMDb, his father Eddie owned a construction company and mother Marian, also known as Gigi (short for Grandma Gorgeous) owned a hair salon in Las Vegas. Gigi has miscarried triplets before Deon, and his grandmother’s brother has 11 children, four out of which come from pairs of twins. The Doubling Down with the Derricos star’s parents divorced when he was 13 while Deon attended Detroit public schools including Cooley High School. His acting aspirations took him to Los Angeles where Deon ended up getting minor uncredited roles in movies such as Miss Congeniality 2 and Rocky Balboa. Deon’s other jobs included being a school bus driver, hairstylist and salon owner, but somewhere during this time he also opened a company called Deon Derrico Entertainment, Inc. Deon, who also had interests in real estate development, also became the CEO of his company Derricodew Corporation in 2010.

The Doubling Down with the Derricos parents got married in 2005 and had their first baby, a girl Darian, 14, in 2006. Karen suffered from two miscarriages after Darian’s birth when her doctor put her on a progesterone treatment. The TLC couple later had their oldest son Derrick, 9, after five years. Fun fact – all the Derrico babies have names starting with the letter “D” and they are all born naturally without any IVF. Twin brothers and 8-year-old Dallas and Denver were born next to breastfeed advocate Karen, and in 2013, the Derricos gave birth to the medical marvel quintuplets that shot the family to fame. A year after the birth of Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Daician, and Daiten, father Deon was charged with real estate fraud. The Las Vegas couple had an adopted son called Derron, 28, who had also accused Deon of fraud and harassment. The whereabouts of their estranged son are currently not known.

Karen and Deon expected triplets next but had one of the three babies, Carter, passed away after birth. Diez and Dior, now aged 3, came to be known as “the triplins” and in 2018, Deon was acquitted of all charges. The Doubling Down with the Derricos family got their TLC reality show and Karen gave birth to a new set of preemie triplets in July 2019. Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver made the total count of the Derrico children go up to 14, but the eldest of them, baby girl Dawsyn was born with a hole in her heart. The baby nicknamed “Awesome Dawysn” underwent surgery and came home completely healed by January 2020. With their grocery bills running up to $3,500 a month, the Doubling Down with the Derricos family continues to stay in Las Vegas and is joined by Gigi who’s moved with them to look after the kids.
