Dwayne Johnson Calls Out Shazam In Funny Black Adam Post

Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson take to Twitter to call out Shazam in a funny post comparing the DC characters’ teasers at DC FanDome. Johnson has been attached to star as the ancient antihero since 2014 with plans to originally stand as the villain for Zachary Levi’s hero. However, DC Films would meet with Johnson a few years later and elect to split the character into his own film with an antihero angle alongside the solo Shazam! film to allow the archenemies to breathe before facing off with one another.

Johnson leads the cast of Black Adam alongside Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, better known in the comics as Isis, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, all members of the Justice Society of America. Plot details are still being kept under wraps for the film, but it is expected to follow the 52 and original storylines for the character in which he is imprisoned for 5,000 years for his abuse of his powers and breaks free with inadvertent help from the Intergang. Following multiple delays due to the ongoing pandemic, the film is finally set to hit theaters in July 2022.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On the heels of the teasers for both films debuting at the DC FanDome, one Twitter user compared stills of Shazam and Black Adam to ask what the former can even do when put up against the latter. Johnson responded with a quote from the DC antihero himself reminiscent of the star’s wrestling days. See what Johnson said below:

Though Black Adam may be bringing a more antihero approach to its titular character, it has still been teased by those involved that the character will still face off against Shazam in the future of the DC Extended Universe. Johnson’s jab at his fellow superhero star certainly falls in line with the reaction of many audiences to the Black Adam trailer screened during the DC FanDome, in which the character easily incinerated an Intergang member. While taking out a super-powered being such as Shazam may not be as easy as a non-powered criminal, the footage certainly established an intimidating foe in Adam.

Levi’s Shazam may not be appearing in Black Adam, but the first footage debuted at the virtual event certainly teased their inevitable confrontation, with Shahi’s Tomaz reawakening Johnson’s character by stating the word “Shazam,” the wizard both characters got their powers from. Johnson and Levi both have expressed their hopes to face off against one another on the big screen and with the comics frequently exploring their rivalry and battles, it would certainly be a disappointment for fans if the two never shared the screen together. Only time will tell when Black Adam hits theaters on July 29, 2022.
