Enchanted 2 Casts Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown & Jayma Mays

Enchanted 2 adds Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jayma Mays to its cast. Enchanted was produced by the Walt Disney Company and premiered in 2007. The musical fantasy film was directed by Kevin Lima and featured music by renowned composer Alan Menken. Enchanted tells the story of Giselle (Amy Adams) a princess in Andalasia looking to find her Prince Charming. At the hands of her evil stepmother, Giselle winds up in New York City and enters the lives of a cynical lawyer (Patrick Dempsey), with whom she falls in love, and his daughter. Enchanted pays homage to Disney’s earlier animated films while also parodying the style itself by combining live-action with 2-D animation. The film’s sequel, officially titled Disenchanted, was announced back in December 2020.

Jayma Mays (Glee), Yvette Nicole Brown (NBC’s Community), and Emmy Award winner, Maya Rudolph, will all be a part of the sequel film’s cast. They are joined by Adams, Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden, all of whom starred in the first Enchanted film. According to Deadline, Mays, Rudolph, and Brown are all rumored to be playing villainous characters in the film. While there is no release date yet, it is known that Disenchanted will stream exclusively on Disney+ rather than premiering in movie theaters.

The additions of Mays, Rudolph, and Brown to the cast of Disenchanted is a power move on part of the casting directors at Disney. Showcasing a diverse, female-led supporting cast will allow it to break away from stereotypical princess dynamics and flip the idea of happily ever after on its head. All three women are comedy powerhouses known primarily for their work on TV. Additionally, Mays’ and Brown’s singing experiences on Glee and Community, respectively, will make them valuable additions to this musical comedy film. Watching these incredible actresses branch out further into feature film work while also incorporating their innate comedic and musical sensibilities will surely draw in a broader segment of viewers to the Enchanted franchise. Disenchanted is sure to make audiences laugh, cry, and sing when it premieres on Disney+.
