Every DC Hero in DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace

A video game titled DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace was announced during DC Kids FanDome 2021 to pair with the upcoming animated DC pets film. Being developed by PHL Collective and published by Outright Games, the game focuses on Krypto and Ace, the dogs of Superman and Batman, teaming up to protect the animals of Metropolis. The game is currently scheduled for release in Spring 2022, with the animated film debuting in theatres on May 20, 2022.

PHL Collective and Outright Games previously worked together on 2020’s Ben 10: Power Trip and recently released the co-op platformer The Addams Family: Mansion MayhemDC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace will be both studios’ first foray into comic book properties. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The teaser trailer shown during DC Kids FanDome 2021 gave the first glimpse at how gameplay will work. In the short trailer, Krypto flies through the streets of Metropolis using his heat vision to destroy robots. Only Superman’s dog Krypto appeared in the teaser trailer, but it’s likely the game will include more super-pets that will show up in the companion film.

Krypto & Ace Will Certainly Be Playable

Superman’s canine companion Krypto holds the spotlight in the upcoming game, which is no surprise the game’s title and Metropolis setting. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan, the super-dog is no stranger to DC video games. Having most recently appearing as a playable character in Lego DC Super Villains, Krypto is also playable in DC Universe Online, which promised 10 more years of service.

While not appearing in the trailer, Batman’s Ace the Bat-Hound will fight alongside Krypto. Ace debuted in Batman #92, which was published in July 1955. Unlike Krypto, Ace has only appeared in one video game, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. The agility-enhanced canine was also referenced in Batman: Arkham Knight with a food bowl located on Wayne Tower’s floor.

Confirmed Film Heroes Might Make An Appearance

Wonder Woman’s kangaroo Jumpa has yet to be confirmed for the upcoming game, but has been revealed to appear in the related animated film. Jumpa is a flying kangaroo from Themyscira who was created by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter. The kangaroo first appeared in Sensation Comics #6 and has shown up throughout the DC Super Hero Girls franchise, although she wasn’t included as a DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power playable character.

Potentially joining the roster is Streaky the Supercat, companion to Supergirl. Similar to Jumpa, Streaky hasn’t been confirmed for the video game but will feature in the upcoming film. Created by Jerry Siegel and Jim Mooney and first appearing in Action Comics #261, the cat gained its powers due to exposure to X-Kryptonite. Streaky would be a good candidate for appearing in the video game not only due to the character’s inclusion in the companion film, but also because Streaky has been a core member of the Legion of Super-Pets team in the comics.

Early Legion of Super-Pets Members Have A Shot

Although not confirmed for either the game or film, Beppo the Super-Monkey’s has a better shot of being included in DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace than Gotham Knights studio supoosed new Superman game. The monkey from Krypton first appeared in Superboy #76 and was introduced to Krypto and Streaky by Supergirl. Beppo joined the Legion of Super-Pets with Krypto as the leader and possesses the same powers as Kryptonian adults, but scaled down to be proportionate to his size.

Another character yet to be confirmed for the game is Comet the Super-Horse, a stallion from the future who joined Krypto, Streaky, and Beppo in forming the Legion of Super-Pets in Adventure Comics #293. Comet’s unique skill set, including shape-shifting and the ability to stimulate the emotion of love in those around him, would make for an interesting inclusion in the game. As an original member of the Super-Pets team, Comet could appear in game or film, but could be passed up due to the inclusion of other Superman-related heroes like Krypto and Streaky.

Proty, an extraterrestrial telepathic shape-shifter, joined the Legion of Super-Pets early on and could be added to the upcoming DC video game. First appearing in Adventure Comics #308, Proty originally was the pet of Chameleon Boy. After the first Proty died, Chameleon Boy took in Proty II as a pet, who later became Saturn Girl’s pet. Despite its history with the super group, Proty isn’t the most likely character to be playable in the upcoming game due to not being an easily recognizable character.

Later Legion Of Super-Pets Members Not Fully Out of Contention

Other members of the Legion of Super-Pets could appear in DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace, but their potential inclusion could come at the expense of more established superhero pets. Flexi the Plastic Bird and Clay Critter aren’t connected to mainstream DC heroes. Titus, Damian Wayne’s pet, and Bat-Cow seem unlikely to be playable characters due to the high number of canine characters and the already confirmed Batman representation.

After being cut from Injustice 2, Detective Chimp needs to debut in Injustice 3 or serve as a primate representative in the DC League of Super-Pets game, instead of Beppo. The super intelligent, crime-solving chimp created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino has appeared as a playable character in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and Lego DC Super-Villains. However, due to the gameplay shown in the trailer and Detective Chimp’s power set, the primate may be better suited as an NPC in the upcoming DC pets game.

DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace will definitely include Krypto and Ace, with Jumpa and Streaky being likely due to their inclusion in the companion film. Other DC super-pets, such as Comet and Detective Chimp, could show up in the video game due to their membership on the Legion of Super-Pets team. PHL Collective and Outright Games could also develop new animal heroes based on popular DC characters, such as Flash and Aquaman, but that hasn’t even been rumored. DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace will release in Spring 2022 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
