Every Game ONLY Playable On PS5

The PlayStation 5 has been on the market for almost a year, but how many true exclusives has it accrued in that time? Sony initially balked at cross-gen, as it promoted the idea of a clear distinction between the generations and letting the consumer know that the future was with the PS5. This was in stark contrast to Microsoft’s approach, which has been all about cross-gen so that Xbox One users won’t be left behind.

Sony has backpedaled hard on cross-gen, with titles Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War: Ragnarok all coming to PS4 in the future. This was a wise decision, considering how massive the PS4 userbase is, and how difficult it is for people to acquire a PS5. This approach has also left the PS5 with few exclusives, as launch titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are also available on PS4.

The PS5 will soon receive a new exclusive, as Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is due to be released on September 24. It’s joining a rather small club, as there are only a few PS5 exclusives, as most games that have been released during the system’s lifespan are multiplatform or were made for the PS4 and are running through backward compatibility. Microsoft and Sony are buying up studios, likely in preparation for an upcoming exclusives war that will define this console generation, but most of these studios have yet to bear fruit.

What Games Are True PS5 Exclusives?

The current list of PS5 exclusive titles that aren’t cross-gen PS4 titles are:

  • Astro’s Playroom
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Destruction AllStars
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
  • Returnal
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

One game that came close to being on this list is Void Terrarium Plus, but all of the PS5 content is available in the Nintendo Switch and PS4 versions of the game as DLC. It’s likely that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will hit other platforms in the future, as there are already leaks regarding a PC version of the game. There’s also a significant chance that all of the games above (save for Astro’s Playroom) will come to PC in the future. Sony is taking a leaf out of Microsoft’s book and allowing PlayStation exclusives to come to PC, so it’s unclear exactly how many true PS5 exclusives there will be at the end of the console’s lifespan. There’s even a chance that Astro’s Playroom will be the last man standing, as its gameplay is so connected to the PlayStation 5 that it wouldn’t make sense to bring it to PC.
