Everything Pokémon Sword & Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC Includes

The latest information for Pokémon Sword & Shield‘s upcoming DLC has finally been revealed. Thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct-style broadcast from the official Pokémon channel on YouTube, fans have lots of new information regarding the upcoming expansion, The Crown Tundra. Given orders by the new Professor Peony, players must venture to a snow-covered new realm, one that appears to be perfect for exploration and catching new Pokémon.

Originally releasing in November 2019, Pokémon Sword & Shield was later announced to be receiving two DLC expansions. The first expansion, The Isle of Armor, released in June of this year. The Crown Tundra was already known to be the second expansion, but Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have stayed pretty quiet about it until now. The game was expected for a Fall 2020 release, and thanks to the newest broadcast on YouTube, fans now have an official release date.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The new broadcast regarding the Crown Tundra DLC released earlier today. The Pokémon Company’s presentation outlined the Crown Tundra‘s new story and content. The company announced several new features to be introduced alongside the DLC, including a new Galarian Star Tournament, new Dynamax Adventure raids, and teased new Pokémon that weren’t previously included in Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s Pokédex. It’s a lot for fans of the long-running franchise to be excited about, and it’s all releasing very soon.

What New Pokémon Are Coming In Crown Tundra

Some of the biggest news from the presentation is that players will be able to catch ALL Legendary Pokémon from past mainline games in the Crown Tundra. Vague information regarding this was previously released by The Pokémon Company, and some possible leaks hinted at returning Pokemon. However, it’s now known that the returning Legendary Pokémon from mainline games will appear through new Dynamax Raids. In addition to the older returning Legendaries, the Crown Tundra DLC expansion is giving players Galarian forms of the Legendary Birds of Kanto: Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos.

Another new Legendary included in the Crown Tundra is Calyrex, a psychic and grass-type Pokémon that once ruled Galar in ancient times. New Legendary titans Regidrago and Regieleki can also be caught in the newest Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion. Galarian Slowpokes will be able to evolve into Galarian Slowkings now as well, thanks to a new item found in the Crown Tundra.

More new Pokémon will assuredly appear in the game when the Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra DLC releases. Rumored new Pokémon have surfaced through data mining and leaks in the past. However, a definitive list hasn’t released by the company at the time of this writing.

When Crown Tundra’s Release Date Is & What It Costs

Thanks to the latest broadcast from The Pokémon Company, The Crown Tundra expansion has been given an official release date. The DLC will release on October 22, 2020 in the United States and October 23rd, 2020, in the UK. To play it, Pokémon fans will need the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, which costs $29.99.

However, new versions of Pokémon Sword and Shield will be debuting soon. The new versions includes the base games, as well as The Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra expansions. Pokémon Sword + Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield + Expansion Pass are both set to release on November 6th, 2020.

How Pokemon Go Will Work With Crown Tundra

Alongside the upcoming Crown Tundra expansion, there are some new changes to Pokémon Go and Pokémon Home. These changes directly interact with Pokémon Sword and Shield. With this new update, Pokémon caught in Pokémon Go can be transferred to Sword and Shield. However, players will need to use the fairly new Pokémon Home service to make transferring Pokémon possible.

Additionally, transferring a Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Home will allow players to open a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go. Opening the Mystery Box will cause Meltan, a Mythical Pokémon, to show up near players on their map. This gives them an opportunity to catch Meltan for themselves.

Transferring between Pokémon Go and Pokémon Home will also make a Mystery Gift appear in Pokémon Home. This Mystery Gift gives players a special Melmetal to transfer and use in Pokémon Sword and Shield. This special Melmetal is capable of Gigantamaxing. This marks the first time that Melmetal, a Mythical Pokémon, has been able to Gigantamax. A Galarain Slowking was also shown off briefly during the trailer for Pokemon Sword & Shield: The Crown Tundra.

For now, that’s everything currently known about the Crown Tundra DLC. The second (and perhaps last) expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield arrives on October 22nd, 2020. An updated version of both games that include the Expansion Pass will release on November 6th, 2020, as well. The Crown Tundra expansion promises new Pokémon, new regional variants, new Dynamax Adventure raids, and a new Galarian Star Tournament. It’s plenty of new content that should keep fans of the franchise very happy.
