Fast & Furious Producer Reacts to Vin Diesel’s Plea for The Rock to Return

Dwayne Johnson’s business partner and co-producer Hiram Garcia reacts to Vin Diesel’s plea for The Rock’s return in Fast & Furious. After two decades, The Fast Saga is down to its final stretch after Fast & Furious 9 kicked off the franchise’s final trilogy. That means, there are only two installments left before it fully wraps up. Since a culminating narrative is expected, old characters from previous movies could very well return, and if Diesel is to decide, he wants Johnson’s Luke Hobbs to make a re-appearance.

F9 already started bringing back fan-favorite characters with the re-emergence of Han Lue (Sung Kang) who had been presumed dead for years. Apparently, he survived Deckard Shaw’s (Jason Statham) murder attempt and faked his death with the help of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), as revealed in the latest Justin Lin project. If The Fast Saga can find a way to resurrect someone like Han, there’s really no justified excuse to not see Hobbs back with the “la familia.” Debuting in Fast Five as a U.S. Diplomatic Security Service agent tapped to take down Dominic Torreto and his crew, Johnson’s character eventually joined forces with the crew. But after appearing in four consecutive Fast & Furious movies, he parted ways with the group and got his own spin-off in Hobbs & Shaw.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In light of Diesel’s recent post asking Johnson to return for Fast & Furious 10, Garcia told Screen Rant while promoting Red Notice what he thinks of it. He said that it’s difficult to think what might come out from The Fast Saga, but given The Rock’s status, he appreciates the fact that Diesel is reaching out to him. Garcia ends by saying that wouldn’t be surprised if there was even a personal DM to Johnson regarding the matter. Read his full answer below:

“Look, you can never predict or control what’s going to come out of that world. So I’m very used to it by now. I think we’re both very used to it. I know. I haven’t been able to really connect with DJ on it because he’s been buried in promoting Red Notice. But yeah, I’m used to it. It’s what comes with that world. You get crazy curve balls thrown and you just roll with it.

“It’s the Fast family. Look, DJ’s the biggest movie star in the world. No one’s below trying all attempts and approaches to try and get him on board. So I appreciate it. You got to take your shot. You never know. I’m sure there’s a couple DMs that slid in there too. I’m sure he slid into the DMs as well.”

Johnson and Diesel’s feud has been an open secret in Hollywood. While the pair never properly addressed it, the indirect comments have shone a light on their on-set drama. But, Diesel is clearly willing to let everything go if that means Johnson comes back for The Fast Saga’s ending. Before the release of F9, he shared an image of Dom from Fast Five, while Hobbs can be seen in the background — the first indication that he’s open to a truce. Many fans took it as a sign of Johnson’s eventual return for Fast & Furious 10 as there wasn’t any indication that he would be appearing in its direct prequel. Admittedly, Garcia’s comments give away nothing regarding this possibility, but it’s curious if there are any private discussions about pushing this to happen.

In any case, Hobbs’ potential Fast & Furious 10 return makes sense in terms of the franchise’s narrative given the film’s culminating nature. It could also effectively set up more and better spin-offs following Hobbs & Shaw. Given this, it could be a good career move for Johnson, as well, especially if he has any interest in continuing his offshoot franchise with Jason Statham.
