Candace Rice from MTV’s Floribama Shore is officially a mother, but it’s going to be a stressful road ahead for this reality TV star and her new bundle of joy. Many fans were unaware that Candace was dating anyone, let alone expecting. She unveiled both major life updates on Christmas Eve with a set of maternity photos that she intended to share much later in her pregnancy. However, at only 24 weeks, Maxwell Michael Hardy made his grand entrance into this world on Christmas day.
Throughout her tenure on Floribama Shore, Candace has preferred to keep her private life largely under wraps. In 2018, it took a lot for her to introduce her roomies to her then-boyfriend Gator Jay 231 Southside God, and even more for her to reveal an incident where he put his hands around her throat. Ever since, aside from castmate Codi Butts shooting his shot on multiple occasions, there’s been little mention of Candace’s personal endeavors. She fiercely supported Nilsa Prowant throughout her engagement and pregnancy, and Aimee Hall as her boyfriend Dillon Johnson battled addiction. Now, Nilsa and Aimee are stepping up to support Candace.
On Christmas morning, at 2:30 a.m., Candace gave birth to her son Maxwell Michael Hardy after carrying him for 24 weeks. On Instagram, Candace shared a photo of her baby hooked up to a slew of wires in the NICU, where he has to stay for several months. She said, “I’m asking for prayers now, more than ever for my little man. He’s so small, but so aware. I cannot wait to hold him.” Nilsa, who in the spring gave birth to Gray Allen Gazda after suffering a miscarriage several years ago, commented, “He is a little Christmas warrior and so is his mommy! Sending you all the prayers! May God place his healing hands over you and baby Maxwell! I love you!” Aimee echoed Nilsa’s sentiment and offered her prayers.

Fans were shocked the night before when, in a single Instagram post, Candace announced her pregnancy, the fact that she was in pre-term labor and the identity of her boyfriend and father of Maxwell. One fan commented, “I MISSSED LIKE 15 CHAPTERS?!?!??” Candace posted a set of stunning maternity photos and thanked her parents, doctors and nurses for helping her though this difficult time. At the top of the list, she thanked her boyfriend, who goes by DJ Skar on social media. Candace said he was “there for me through the worst HG possible (I lost 20 pounds in the first 4 months and was throwing up on average 7 times a day) could barely walk or move and he was there for me every single day making sure I had what I needed all while working full time. I couldn’t ask for a better support system.”
According to DJ Skar’s Instagram, he met Candace almost a year ago and they’ve since enjoyed a “fast pace” journey. He praised Candace and Maxwell for their strength and added that he has “full faith that our family will grow and continue to prosper.” On Twitter, Candace acknowledged that they were unprepared for the early arrival of Maxwell. She inquired whether or not it’s “appropriate” to have an after-birth baby shower while Maxwell remains in the NICU. Just as the Floribama Shore cast rallied to host an unforgettable baby shower for Nilsa on the most recent season, it’s highly likely they’ll do the same for Candace.
