For the first season of Game of Thrones, Sansa Stark was probably the least likable member of House Stark. She was a naïve girl who led herself and her family into trouble. However, as the series went on, Sansa became stronger and grew into one of its most beloved characters.
After her incredible journey, Sansa’s ending was one of the more satisfying in the series. But there are still some aspects of her character that were imperfect. From certain storylines to character decisions, not everything about Sansa made sense, and fans are still thinking about these flaws to this day.
10 Liking Joffrey
Joffrey Baratheon was easily one of the most hated characters on the show. The fact that Sansa fell head-over-heels in love with him immediately was a big part of what made her a frustrating character in the beginning.
Sansa loves romance stories, and sees Joffrey as her prince charming. However, it isn’t long before his true colors show and he lies about attacking Arya which results in Sansa direwolf being killed. Even after that, Sansa is still gushing over Joffrey and dreams of being his bride.
9 Arya Gone Missing
Once Ned Stark is executed, Sansa’s character begins to change for the better. She loses all thoughts of romance stories and sees Joffrey for the monster he is. But in the aftermath of her father’s death, she doesn’t seem to give much thought to her missing sister.
Arya goes missing when Ned is thrown in prison. Without knowing if she is alive or dead, Sansa doesn’t even ask about her. The sisters had their differences, but one would think Sansa would be extremely worried about her younger sister.
8 Trusting Littlefinger
There are few people in Westeros as deceptive and untrustworthy as Littlefinger. His skill at playing the “game of thrones” rubs off on Sansa and she becomes quite a cunning player herself. So as she gets wiser and more powerful, it’s a wonder why she still allows Littlefinger in her inner circle.
His motives are quite clearly nefarious, and Sansa is well aware that he will lie to get what he wants. But for so long, she keeps him around and continues to be manipulated by him.
7 Not Leaving With The Hound
At first, Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, seemed like a terrifying lackey for the Lannisters. However, he became something of a protector for Sansa while she was in King’s Landing, despite still being intimidating.
During the Battle of Blackwater, The Hound decides to leave King’s Landing and offers to take Sansa with him. Though it makes sense she would be nervous, she admits that she knows he won’t hurt her, so why not go with him and escape this nightmare?
6 Feud With Arya
Ever since they were all split up at the end of Season 1, fans just wanted to see the Stark siblings reunite. It took a long time, but by Season 7, they had all come together. However, the reunion between Sansa and Arya was a little spoiled due to Littlefinger’s meddling.
Using a letter Sansa had written to Robb when she was a Lannister prisoner, Arya becomes convinced her sister is a traitor. This seems like manufactured tension as the truth behind the letter would seem pretty obvious.
5 Sansa’s Hatred For Daenerys
By the final season of the show, the Starks had regained control of Winterfell and Sansa was proving herself to be a good leader. So she is not happy at all when Daenerys shows up and Jon pledges the North to her cause.
However, Sansa’s immediate combative relationship with Daenerys seems foolish for a character who is anything but. Sansa knows the threat of the White Walkers, and having Daenerys on their side is a huge win. To see her so openly defiant is ridiculous.
4 Setting Littlefinger Up
Eventually, Sansa and Arya realize Littlefinger is playing them against each other. They decide to surprise him with his own trial where his many crimes are laid bare and he is eventually executed. But how long had Sansa been planning this?
She and Arya were really fighting for a while. Arya even threatened to kill Sansa at one point. Was that all part of the ruse? Also, when did Bran tells Sansa about Littlefinger’s crimes? Did he tell her just before the trial or did she know for a long time and only decided to act when Littlefinger manipulated her?
3 Feuding With Jon
It’s a shame that once Sansa becomes such an intelligent character, the show decides it needs to put her in a bunch of unnecessary feuds to keep things interesting. Another tense relationship that develops is with Jon Snow.
Once he is named King in the North, Sansa immediately begins questioning Jon’s decisions. Jon has made plenty of mistakes, so questioning him is not unreasonable. But Sansa does so in front of all the Northern lords, which looks like poor leadership on her part.
2 Battle Of The Bastards
The massive Battle of the Bastards was one of the most impressive battle sequences in the show. It pits Jon and his forces against Ramsay Bolton and his much larger army. However, neither of them knew that Sansa had recruited the army of the Vale as well.
Their late arrival secures the Starks’ victory, but why wouldn’t Sansa have told Jon about it? It seems pointless to keep that a secret from the man leading the army, and could have easily led to their defeat.
1 Queen In The North
Along with many other controversial moments, the final episode of the series revealed Bran Stark would be the one to sit on the Iron Throne. However, Sansa decides the North will remain an independent kingdom and she will be Queen in the North.
This would make sense if it was anyone else sitting on the throne, but why not serve Bran as king? Sansa admits he would be a good king, and the North would likely be thrilled to kneel to a Stark who sits on the Iron Throne.
