Godzilla Vs. Kong 2’s Villain Can Pay Off KOTM’s Credits Tease

Details on Godzilla vs. Kong 2‘s villain indicate that the movie is in a position to pay off Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ credits tease. A plot synopsis has revealed that the main antagonist is “a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world.” As for the creature’s identity, Legendary Pictures is currently keeping that answer under wraps.

For now, there is no official word on who Legendary has picked for the main villain. Regardless of whether the story involves a Godzilla-Kong rematch, it’s likely the fifth MonsterVerse movie will culminate in a team-up between Godzilla and Kong as they join forces against an undisclosed Titan. Though nothing has been confirmed, the monster in question will likely be revealed as an established kaiju from Toho’s library of films. If that’s the case, the Godzilla vs. Kong 2 villain could turn out to be a re-imagined version of Biollante, SpaceGodzilla, Orga, Gigan, or even Hedorah.

Regardless of who the villain actually is, the creature’s MonsterVerse debut in Godzilla vs. Kong 2 could be the culmination of an ominous tease hidden in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. A series of messages hidden in the redacted text told a story of an ancient war between humans and Titans. Toward the end, the credits dropped the coordinates, “37.218705, 38.855563”, and then followed up with a line that read, “But how long will it take for the fires to awaken and send our own civilization into collapse.” Given that the coordinates point to Gobekli Tepe, a ruined temple in Turkey, there was a sense that Godzilla: King of the Monsters was hinting at the existence of a MonsterVerse Titan hidden somewhere under the temple, presumably within the Hollow Earth world.

Who Is Godzilla Vs. Kong 2’s Mystery Titan?

Both the Godzilla vs. Kong 2 plot synopsis and the Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits set up apocalyptic threats, so it’s not implausible that they’re hinting at the same monster. Described in the synopsis as something that will challenge “the existence” of the Titans and the humans, Godzilla vs. Kong 2’s villain certainly fits the criteria for the mystery Titan that will “send our civilization into collapse.” With that sort of reputation, it would make sense for the creature to be one of Godzilla’s deadliest foes, with two of the top candidates being Gigan and SpaceGodzilla. Alternatively, it could be an entirely new Titan. Images of scorpions carved onto the walls of Gobekli Tepe have raised speculation about Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ mystery Titan being a giant arachnoid monster.

Either way, all indications point toward Godzilla and Kong having their hands full when they return to the big screen. Mechagodzilla gave the weakened Godzilla and Kong all they could handle because they had been so busy beating up each other. With their own rivalry seemingly out of the way, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 should see the two fighting on the same side for most of the movie. Any villain who can challenge both of them at their full strength would undoubtedly have to be a force to be reckoned with and perhaps the most powerful Titan in the entire MonsterVerse.
