Good Bones: Where The HGTV Show Is Filmed (& All About The City)

HGTV’s popular series Good Bones is currently airing its sixth season, and fans want to know more about the show’s filming location. Good Bones has become more than just a home renovation series. Fans have come to love the cast members as they highlight community and family in the show. One of the reasons this show is so unique is its filming location. The cast’s reason for filming there is also interesting.

Mother and daughter duo Karen Laine and Mina Starsiak have graced TV screens since 2016 and have become two of HGTV’s most popular stars. As stars of other home renovation shows do, Mina and Karen work to renovate the most rundown homes. They do so in their hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. What’s different about Good Bones is that Karen and Mina handle nearly everything themselves. Also, shows on HGTV, like Flip Or Flop and Property Brothers, are filmed in bigger cities or other countries. However, Karen and Mina are devoted to revitalizing a whole neighborhood located in their hometown of Indianapolis.

Karen and Mina (they own the company Two Chicks and a Hammer) predominately focus on the historic Indianapolis neighborhoods of Bates-Hendricks, Fountain Square, and Old Southside. Since the duo is dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods, it isn’t uncommon to see multiple homes renovated simultaneously on Good Bones.

Karen And Mina Live And Work In Indianapolis

Karen and Mina said they wanted to focus on these neighborhoods because they live and work there. They started their house-flipping career in the Fountain Square neighborhood near downtown Indianapolis. When Karen and Laine were house-flipping on the side, they started flipping in Fountain Square. When they took their business on full-time, they ventured to Bates-Hendricks and Old Southside. The Two Chicks and a Hammer women are Indy proud, and it’s evident on the show. From rocking Indy t-shirts to showing Indy-related coffee mugs, the Good Bones team takes pride in helping revitalize these historic neighborhoods, and they are here to stay.

The Good Bones Location Is A Sports Haven

Located in America’s heartland, Indianapolis is home to just over 880,000 people. Indianapolis is best known for housing the Indy 500, the largest single-day sporting event in the world. Indianapolis is also home to major sports teams like the Pacers and Colts. Mina from Good Bones admitted she is a Colts season ticket holder and attends every game. Sports may be a staple in the city, but it is also filled with history, arts and culture, and plenty of fun things for families to do. It’s home to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the largest children’s museum in the world. The museum features over 100,000 exhibits and artifacts and is nearly 500,000 square feet.

Indianapolis Has A Thriving Food Scene

The city is also second only to Washington, D.C. in terms of the number of monuments dedicated to veterans and war casualties. It has the second-largest war museum globally. Indianapolis was once mainly known for sports, but now it is known for its emerging food scene. Karen from Good Bones and Mina both recommend that visitors eat at their go-to restaurant and bar, The Bluebeard. The restaurant is nationally known for its shareable plates and features top-tier, locally produced meat from local farms (via Visit Indy).

The Good Bones crew works proudly and locals are pleased with the representation of the city on TV. Mina and Karen told Visit Indy that they have received positive feedback from locals who love how the city is showcased. Mina and Karen have also met multiple people who have visited the city because of watching the show. Indianapolis is a hidden gem and has a lot to offer, from historical sites, parks, museums, and great places to eat. The cast of Good Bones does the city justice.
