GOT & Marvel Fans Unite Celebrating Emilia Clarke’s MCU Debut

Following her appearance in the Secret Invasiontrailer, Game of Thrones and Marvel fans are celebrating Emilia Clarke’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the Disney+ series. Based on Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu’s comic storyline of the same name, the show is centered on Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury returning to Earth to combat a covert Skrull invasion. Secret Invasion is currently set to premiere on the Disney+ series in 2023.

The first live-action series of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Secret Invasion will reunite Jackson’s Nick Fury with Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos when the former SHIELD director returns to Earth after three years. Faced with a covert invasion from a hostile faction of Skrulls, Fury, and Talos unite with familiar faces like Don Cheadle’s Colonel James Rhodes, Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, and Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross against a foe who can be hiding anywhere. And following the release of Secret Invasion‘s first trailer at D23, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions, with many focusing on the addition of Emilia Clarke to the fold.

Across Twitter, fans of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Game of Thrones have shared their enthusiastic reactions to Clarke’s MCU debut. Amongst the positive responses, some fans have pointed out how Clarke’s casting in Secret Invasion meant that the actress has joined another iconic franchise following her role of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones and Q’ira in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Meanwhile, others celebrated Clarke taking on another “bad—” role, while others stated that Clarke’s involvement had helped them become invested in the series. Check out some of the excited, supportive reactions below.

While fans are excited about her involvement, and Jackson has already praised Clarke’s performance, it is currently unknown who she will portray in Secret Invasion, with the footage currently released offering no insight into who her character is. The actress has previously opened up about the secrecy surrounding Marvel projects, stating that one of the first things she had to do after taking the role was speak to Marvel Studios’ security team, before joking that she was afraid the studio was monitoring her. Despite the lack of information surrounding her role, both the trailer footage and previously leaked set videos have shown Clarke battling foes who potentially could be the hostile Skrull faction. With the information available and Jackson discussing her performance, many have assumed that she will have a central role as an ally to Fury.

Clarke is a beloved star with a number of recognizable roles, and with Clarke already hoping to remain in the MCU, it is clear that many fans share her enthusiasm following their first glimpse at Secret Invasion. Praised for her standout roles in series like Game of Thrones, the actress has proven herself capable of portraying complex characters who immediately capture audiences’ attention. However, while fans may be excited to see Clarke’s character work alongside Fury, with Secret Invasion‘s focus on the shape-shifting, elusive Skrulls, her role may have secrets that may shock fans when the series debuts.
