GTA: San Andreas, Liberty City, & Vice City Maps Connected In Huge Mod

The Grand Theft Auto series has taken players through various iconic cities, but one modder wasn’t satisfied with seeing the locations that players know so well come and go with each new installment, so they created a mod that combines the series’ first three cities, and perhaps the most liked cities, into one giant map. The mod is called GTA: Underground and the creator has just released a sparkling new version that is sure to keep fans busy for a while.

GTA: Underground actually includes five different maps. San Andreas, Vice City, and Liberty City are in there, and most fans would call one of these cities from major GTA games in the series their favorite. These three cities make it very obvious that they are modelled after some well-known real cities in America, namely San Francisco, Miami, and New York respectively. However, the maps from Rockstar’s tie-in games; Manhunter 1 and 2 and Bully have also been built into the mod, making this an extensive map that was sure to add cities from the entire GTA universe.

This update to GTA: Underground comes with a built-in installer, and has had several fixes and improvements implemented. According to Dark Side Of Gaming, version 4.1.7 adds some more polish to the map, like fixing collisions in Vice City and updating the radar map. The mod, created by modder dkluin, can be downloaded from Moddb, and on its page the modder boasts not only a combination of GTA’s biggest maps, but also gang wars, additional vehicles and weapons, and a multiplayer mode. The whole mod has been created in the style and spirit of GTA: San Andreas, the most beloved game of the series, and can be installed on this base game.

The GTA: Underground mod was first released in 2015, but at this point it was still a buggy mess that needed some serious TLC. Six years down the line the ambitious project has turned into quite the feat of design and detail. The GTA franchise is incredibly popular, and mods are popping up for games across the series all the time. These can be a whole lot of fun, especially for players that have completed the campaign but aren’t ready to turn the game off yet. However, GTA has proven not every mod can be great, and players should steer clear of mods that seem suspiciously like malware, or just serve to take away from the game, like a mod that traps Michael in his mansion waiting for The Purge that will never begin.

The big question on GTA fans’ minds is where will GTA 6 take them? There are several theories that argue that Rockstar is going back to Vice City, but there isn’t much substantial evidence for this idea. Hopefully GTA 6 will introduce fans to a new location to explore, but there is always something to be said for nostalgia. The GTA: Underground mod can help fans with this, as players can relive all of the cities at once. If players can keep from being overwhelmed, fans of the GTA series should consider taking a road trip through the fictional universe.
