How MCU Spider-Man’s Moving Eyes Work Revealed By Tom Holland

With less than a week left until the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, curious kids are not holding back from asking their analytical questions to the cast of the film. Spider-Man: No Way Home is directed by Jon Watts and will be the third solo installment of the titular hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The highly anticipated film hosted its world premiere on December 13 in Los Angeles at the Regency Village theatre.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Peter Parker’s identity revealed to the public after Mysterio manipulates a video recording, directing the blame of the drone strikes to Peter. Consequently, Peter seeks assistance from Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to reverse the effects of his identity being exposed. However, Dr. Strange’s reality-altering spell goes wrong, breaking open the multiverse in the MCU. As reality is changed, past Spider-Man franchise villains will return to the big screen, including Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and Doc Ock (Alfred Molina).

In a diverting segment of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Holland, Zendaya, Cumberbatch, and Jacob Batalon are asked several questions from kids surrounding the upcoming film. Although most of the questions were heartwarming, some weren’t hesitant to take advantage of the opportunity and get into the nitty-gritty of Holland’s Spider-Man suit and how the eyes work. Holland revealed that, in the movie, there’s a camera inside the mask that maps his face and copies how his eyes move. Read his full quote below:

Essentially, what it is, inside the mask is a camera that’s mapping my face and copying what my face is doing. All the expressions I make, the eyes copy it. Just in the movie [laughs]. It doesn’t do this in real life.

With many generations growing up with the wall-crawling superhero, Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the most anticipated movie of the year. Because of this, many fans both young and old, are interested in the finer in-universe details that have yet to be revealed about Spider-Man. How his eyes work is just one aspect of this, as Holland has previously commented on the various ways in which the Spider-Man suit is challenging to work in.

Despite alleged leaks and hypothetical rumors, Spider-Man: No Way Home has remained relatively secretive, steering away from potentially sharing spoilers of the film and making it easier to focus on the minutia of the movie. In a recent PSA campaign to combat this issue, the cast of the film warned fans to refrain from ruining the film for others. Therefore, questions relating to the film will have to wait until fans tune in for the opening premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, 2021.
