Spotify is one of the very best music streaming services on the market, but if there are other users on the app you don’t want to deal with, blocking them can make it even better. Its Daily Mixes are incredibly fine-tuned to people’s listening habits, podcasts are included for free, and the ability to start a song on one device and control it on another is never not convenient.
Another key aspect of Spotify is its social element. Users can find friends and family on Spotify, follow them to see their listening habits, and even use Spotify Blend to create custom playlists based on two people’s profiles. While this is usually a positive addition to Spotify, there may come a time where someone needs to block another user. In this situation, blocking Spotify users is quite easy. Open the app, find the other user’s profile, click the ‘…’ button on their profile, and click/tap the Block button (It says ‘Block’ on desktop, and ‘Block User’ on mobile). Spotify used to require people to call customer service to block someone, but as of November 2021, it can be done right within the app.
When It’s A Good Idea To Block Spotify Users
As expected, blocking someone in Spotify puts up a virtual wall between you and the other user. Blocked users will no longer be able to see your Spotify profile page, listening activity, or public playlists. If someone blocks a user but wants to reverse their decision, they can do so at any time by visiting the blocked user’s profile and selecting the ‘Unblock’ button.
Although most folks shouldn’t need to regularly block Spotify users, this functionality is good to have in cases where it makes sense. Whether someone wants to stop their ex, work colleagues, or old college friends from seeing what they’re up to on Spotify, blocking them is a quick and easy way to do so.
