How to Catch Gigantamax Snorlax in Pokémon Sword & Shield

Gigantamax Snorlax can be captured in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This guide will help players locate and capture this massive creature. Dynamax and Gigantamax forms were introduced to the series in Pokemon Sword & Shield. While Dynamax can be used to grow any Pokemon for a limited time and give them powerful attacks, Gigantamax forms provide an entirely new design. This is only for limited Pokemon like Pikachu, Eevee, and Machamp, but each of these Gigantamax forms can only be captured while in the wild area or by trading with another trainer. This guide will help players capture a Gigantamax Snorlax.

One of the biggest inclusions to Pokemon Sword & Shield is its new wild area. The wild area provides a wide-open space for trainers to explore. When approaching patches of grass or glimmering ponds, Pokemon will spawn in the overworld naturally. In the previous titles, players would only run into a wild Pokemon when walking into the grass. The random encounter would begin and players have the choice to battle, capture, or run away from the Pokemon. This inclusion has brought more life into the world of Pokemon. Also, the wild area is the best location to find Gigantamax Pokemon. Here’s how players can find Gigantamax Snorlax.

Capturing Gigantamax Snorlax in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Gigantamax Snorlax is one of the Gigantamax Pokemon that get cycled in and out of the Battle Dens in the wild area. Gigantamax Snorlax can appear in a Battle Den with either a red or purple light. These either spawn naturally or the player can use a Wishing Piece to summon one. To refresh the wild area, players can resync using Mystery Gift in the pause menu and choosing “Wild Area News”. When finally finding one, the player will need to defeat it in combat. Bringing along a powerful fighting type like Machamp or Pangoro will make this battle much easier. Although, even though the player defeats Snorlax, capturing it is completely up to chance.

The Gigantamax feature is similar to Mega Evolution and Z Moves, putting them both together in one package. This has completely changed the competitive aspect of the game. A new DLC is set to release this June and later this Fall. The Isle of Armor set for June while the Crown Tundra is scheduled for the Fall. In this DLC, the player can encounter over 200 older Pokemon not available in the base game. Also, new story scenarios and challenges for the player to take on. This is an excellent way to revisit the Galar region for another adventure.
