How to Catch Metang in Pokémon GO (Weaknesses & Counters)

Metang is one of the potential raid bosses that players can come up against in Pokémon GO. It is a challenging foe, but one that is worth capturing if players can defeat it. Doing so requires the right team.

Metang is a steel and psychic-type Pokémon, which means that it is weak against dark, fire, ghost, and ground-type Pokémon.  Players will want to find Pokémon of these types to add to their team because they will deal extra damage to the Metang. However, there are some Pokémon that are better suited to the fight than others, so here are some of the best Pokémon to take against Metang.

The Best Pokémon for Fighting Metang in Pokémon GO

Since Pokemon Go’s Metang is weak to Fire, Charzard is a great choice to go against it. It is the evolution of Charmander, one of the starter Pokémon for the first generation of Pokémon games, and one of the most famous. Gengar is a powerful ghost and poison-type. Gastly shows up a lot at night, and it evolves into a Haunter and then a Gengar. A good move to use is the ghost-type quick move Lick. Being licked by a ghost doesn’t seem like a good time, and Metang seems to agree.

Pokemon Go‘s Tyranitar takes care of the dark-type weakness of Metang, as it is a rock and dark-type Pokémon. It evolves from a Larvitar and a Pupitar. It’s also difficult to take down, so it’s a worthy inclusion in the team facing off against Metang. For a ground-type, Garchomp is an excellent choice. Gible evolves to Gabite, and then Garchomp. In addition to being a ground-type Pokémon, it is also a dragon-type. Make sure that its moves are ground-type instead of dragon-type to be effective against Metang. One of its main moves is called Fire Blast, which is a fire-type attack and effective against Metang. It won’t get the ‘Same Type Attack Bonus’ as the ground moves, so it’s not ideal, but it will work in a pinch.

While that covers all the Pokemon Go types that Metang is weak to, teams consist of six Pokémon, so there are two additional slots to fill out.  Players can choose whatever they have on hand that is powerful enough, and of the correct types, but here are some suggestions: Flareon, Entei, Rhyperior, Houndoom, Bisharp, Swampert. Once they beat it in a raid, players can then attempt to capture it. If they are successful, it is added to their collection, and they are one step closer to the dream of catching ‘em all.
