How To Change A Blink Camera’s Wi-Fi Network (Wired & Wireless Cameras)

Knowing how to change Wi-Fi networks is essential for any connected device, and this is especially true with Amazon’s Blink cameras. Among all the smart home gadgets on the market, ones designed for home security are easily the most important. Whether someone wants to keep their home safe from intruders or keep a watchful eye on furry friends while at work, smart cameras, sensors, etc. are all great devices to have.

For many folks, Blink cameras are the most appealing. Blink’s security cameras are easy to set up, have most of the big features you could ask for, and come in at affordable prices. They aren’t the most advanced smart cameras out there, but when it comes to getting a good deal, it’s hard to do much better than Blink.

That said, there is one aspect of Blink cameras that can be difficult to find: changing their Wi-Fi network. It’s easy enough to enable motion alerts or watch a camera’s live feed, but how in the world does someone change the Wi-Fi network a Blink camera is connected to? The process is actually quite simple, though it does vary depending on which Blink camera you’re using. For the Blink Mini Camera, the process is as follows: Open the Blink mobile app, tap the Settings icon next to the Mini Camera (the one that looks like three sliders), scroll to the bottom of the page, and tap ‘Change Wi-Fi.’ Follow the prompts on the app to press and hold the reset button on the Blink Mini Camera until it starts flashing red and blue lights. When you see a blinking blue light and steady green light, tap ‘Discover Device’ on the Blink app to complete the setup and re-connect it to the new Wi-Fi network.

Changing The Wi-Fi Network For A Wireless Blink Camera

If changing the Wi-Fi network for a Blink Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Camera, the process is slightly different. From the home page on the Blink app, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap ‘Sync Module’ (the accessory all wireless Blink cameras connect to). Tap ‘Change Wi-Fi network,’ press and hold the reset button on the side of the Sync Module (using a paperclip or other small object), and wait for a blinking blue light with a steady green light. Once you see those, tap ‘Discover Device’ on the Blink app and follow the rest of the steps to change the Wi-Fi network.

That’s fine and all, but why in the world should someone know how to do this? There are a couple of situations where this could come in handy. For starters, if someone upgrades their home router to a more powerful one, there’s a good chance it’ll come with a different network name and password. If that happens, you’ll need to get your Blink cameras off the old Wi-Fi network and onto the new one. The same is true if someone switches internet providers. For example, if you currently have Xfinity but switch to Spectrum at some point, the new network and router Spectrum provides will very likely change your home Wi-Fi information – meaning you’ll need to change the Wi-Fi settings on your Blink cameras. It’s not something folks have to do all the time, but it’s an important thing to be aware of when the situation arises.
