Diablo 2: Resurrected gives players the freedom to explore large, randomly generated maps while developing 1 of 7 customizable characters. Each class has at least one powerful potential build, such as the Frozen Orb Sorceress. Players will need to explore and complete quests in order to gain the necessary experience and skill points for a top-tier character.

From choosing a class, like the Assassin or Druid, to discovering secret areas, Diablo 2: Resurrected offers players a unique experience with each playthrough. There are a variety of missions to complete, and they usually follow a linear progression. However, there are some events or quests that can be missed if players aren’t exploring every nook and cranny of the vast, discoverable areas. One of those missable missions is in the first act, and completing it is not as straightforward as some of the other quests.

Tools of the Trade is the fifth quest available in Act I. It’s given by the blacksmith in town and can be missed completely if players don’t explore the Monastery Barracks. To complete the quest, players will need to track down and defeat the Smith, retrieve Charsi’s Horadric Malus, and return the weapon to her. While running through the Monastary Barracks, players can go straight into the next area, Jail Level 1, without ever crossing the Smith’s path. Getting to Act II does not require the completion of this quest, but it grants a valuable reward that will benefit any of Diablo 2: Resurrected‘s classes.

Completing Tools of the Trade in Diablo 2: Resurrected

To begin Tools of the Trade, players will need to speak to Charsi after reaching the Monastery Gates, an area accessible from Tamoe Highland. She will mention that she left her Horadric Malus behind in the Monastery. Players will have to track down and kill one of Act I’s Super Unique enemies, the Smith, to find the weapon and return it to Charsi. The first step to completing the quest is finding the Monastery Barracks. After entering the Monastery from the gates, find the Outer Cloister, then enter the Barracks from there. This area needs to be reached for the main story as well, so players will need to pass through it anyway.

Jail Level 1 will sometimes appear near the beginning of the Barracks area, so if players move on right away, they will miss the rest of this quest. Instead, explore the Barracks until coming across the Smith. Defeat the Smith and pick up the Horadric Malus that’s in the same room he was found in. Bringing the weapon back to Charsi will grant players a worthwhile reward. For players in a multiplayer campaign of Diablo 2: Resurrected, there will only be 1 Horadric Malus to pick up, but each member of the party will still receive the reward.

Charsi shows her gratitude by offering to imbue one of the player’s normal items (white). Imbuing the item will upgrade it to a rare (yellow) item with several properties. The ability and stat boosts will depend on the item the player chooses to imbue. This can only be done once, so it should be considered carefully. After Charsi imbues an item, the quest will update and show as completed. Tools of the Trade is a non-mandatory quest in Act I of Diablo 2: Resurrected.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
