How To Get The Choice Specs In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The Choice Specs is a helpful Held Item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. These are items that can be given to Pokémon to give them small bonuses during battle. Each Pokémon can hold one Held Item at a time, allowing up to six Held Items active within a team. One of the ways to earn more Held Items is by speaking with the wide variety of NPCs in the Sinnoh region. Each NPC has its own backstory and lore and may occasionally give the player an item for humoring them.

This includes the Choice Specs, a Held Item that will boost the Special Attack of a Pokémon by 50%, but it locks the Pokémon into using only one move until they switch out. Every Pokémon has its stats broken up into five different categories, Attack, Special Attack, Defense, Special Defense, and Speed. Powerful Pokémon like Pikachu, Espeon, and Gengar are all Pokémon with historically large Special Attack stats, and providing them with the Choice Specs can help them become even stronger.

To unlock the Choice Specs in Pokémon BDSP, players will need to reach Celestic Town. It’s a town located near the center of the Sinnoh that was built to preserve the history of the region. This also happens to be the hometown of Cynthia, the Sinnoh region Champion. After getting the Secret Medicine from Cynthia, players are able to go to reach Celestic Town by following the path north of Solceon Town. There’s a house holding the Choice Specs in this town.

Finding The Choice Specs in Pokémon BDSP

Head to the northwest corner of Celestic Town and enter the house. There will be a woman behind a counter and a man standing to the right of her, he will give the player the Choice Specs but only under specific circumstances. This character can also provide players with other forms of glasses, but it depends on the time the player speaks with them in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

For example, players are only able to unlock the Choice Specs if they speak with this man before 10 am. The sun will need to be up in the game for this to count. Unfortunately, there is no way to alter the time in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl without receiving a time penalty. If players speak with this man after 10 am, he will give the player Black Glasses, an item that boosts the power of Dark-type moves. Trainers can also get the Wise Glasses, an item that boosts the power of Special Attacks by 10% if they speak with him during the night. The Choice Specs is obviously the best out of these three options.
