How To Level Up Fast In Star Wars: The Old Republic

This is a big year for Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) as the MMORPG prepares to start a year-long celebration for its tenth anniversary this December. In a game as long-running as SWTOR, it can be a grind to catch up to the most recent chapter, especially for new players. Players will need to use several strategies to earn XP and gear quickly to unlock SWTOR’s later chapters and prepare for the latest expansion, Legacy of the Sith.

To unlock the chapters after the main class story has been completed, such as “Knights of the Fallen Empire,” players only need to earn the XP to increase their character level. Additionally, players don’t need to reach level 75 to access most of the current expansions if they have purchased a subscription.

Outside periodic increased XP events, there are a number of ways to increase the experience gained from completing missions and defeating enemies. The easiest to access is resting XP from spending time in rest spaces such as cantinas and personal strongholds. When players log out while in one of these spaces, they earn double the XP they would earn from defeating enemies. Another option is the three-hour Complimentary Major Experience Boost, which is awarded upon completing all the class story missions on a planet and provides a 50% XP increase. Players should note this boost cannot be combined with other consumable XP boosts.

How to Earn More XP and Gear in Star Wars: The Old Republic

As players level up, they will also be leveling up their legacy by completing missions and defeating enemies across all their characters on a single SWTOR server. Depending on the legacy level, the player can unlock different tiers of character perks, including passive XP boosts that can be purchased in the legacy menu. By joining a guild, preferred and subscribing players can also earn up to 15% additional XP for all XP-rewarding activities. This XP boost stacks on top of all other unlocked or active XP boosts.

Completing class missions and heroics provide both XP and gear and can help players unlock their own personal spaceship early in SWTOR. Class missions reward large amounts of XP and green premium quality gear, as well as providing conversation opportunities with the five companions that players will unlock while completing class missions. These dialogue options improve the player’s standing with each companion, which increases their combat effectiveness.

Increased combat effectiveness is important for the Heroic 2+ missions. Heroic 2+ missions were originally missions to be completed with another player, but with the quality-of-life updates that SWTOR has introduced over the past couple of years, these can now be completed solo and with the help of an NPC companion. Heroic 2+ missions award large amounts of XP, as well as blue prototype quality gear, which has a higher gear rating than premium gear of the same level. This gear isn’t customizable like the upgradeable lightsabers and armor that can be purchased through the Cartel Market and some NPC vendors, but it will help save the player time and credits for the more expensive upgrades at high levels.

By combining all of these methods, players should reach between levels 50 and 60 by or before the end of the class missions. In a game as large as Star Wars: The Old Republic, there is plenty to explore, and leveling up quickly can help players establish alternate characters ahead of the new Legacy of the Sith expansion’s release.
